Beautiful, beautiful. It is so good for the dogs when they can just run full-out like this. You brought back memories of growing up in my home town, Duluth MN. We were called the air-conditioned city because Lake Superior always kept the temperatures cooler. We had a love-hate relationship with the tourists…we like the commerce they helped support but hated having our private play-yard overrun and the long wait to eat at our favorite restaurants.
Ann how do you remember this stuff? I didn’t even remember that about park Point until you mentioned it, and then it was like yeah, that was the only place you could go swimming on the North Shore, on the south shore on the Wisconsin side their is a really nice sand peach that is very shallow for what seems like a half mile, because it was so shallow the water temperature is tolerable.
If my memory serves me, and it obviously is not as good as yours, the train is still at the Duluth Zoo, but it wasn’t running.
Glad to know about the beach on the Wisconsin side. We never got there, since we were coming down from Two Harbors. All I remember is an incredibly long drive to get across Superior, and I swear every house had a gorgeous clematis on the east side.
Maybe we remember so much about trips because everyday life was dull? The zoo, and the train, were an annual highlight, as was the Viking ship over in the park above the lake (near the rose garden). And the Glass Block, back when it still had real glass blocks. There were also some beautiful old big houses out along the shore on the east end of town.
If I went back now, I probably could not find anything.
We feel the same way about the tourists here on the Cape. We need them for sure, keeps us all in jobs…. but the traffic increases so much and you are right about the wait times at restaurants.
We were camping at Split Rock before heading up to the Boundary Waters last year and the lady at the camp shop and the UPS guy were talking “it’ won’t be long before they’re all gone and we can get back to normal”. As I was standing looking at postcards so didn’t think they could be talking about tourists, I figured they must have been talking about the road construction crew at the entrance to the park. Nope! When I surfaced to buy a postcard, they looked horrified and apologized profusely. I thought it was too funny!

Excellent photos, Lynda. You have much better (and safer) beaches than I do.
We are very lucky to have the great beaches for the dogs. On the “bay” side the tide goes way out and the “flats” are a great place for the dogs to run completely safely. On the “ocean” side the water is deeper and they love to go swimming.
Until Labor Day there is only one beach we can take them to before 9:00am and after 6:00pm but it is better than nothing at all.
Dogs are not very welcome on our beaches. Although, Barb told me about one beach in New Smyrna that is dog friendly. New Smyrna also happens to be heavily infested with sharks ALL the time. Your dogs are very lucky!
Lynda, he looks great. You do such a wonderful job w/your dogs. Have not been too active on the blog since I’m busy training Libby (no bites on skin, go potty outside, let me touch you all over, come when called, etc., 🙂 She is a very good girl, however as you know, puppies are very exhausing. Keeping the wrong things out of her mouth is a full time job. She just discovered water last weekend. She is not much on the pool, but loves the sprinkler.

Great photographs Lynda. It makes me so jealous you have such wonderful safe beaches to let your guys run.

And Park Pointe was one of the few places where Superior was warm enough for swimming. Is it still there? How about that great train at the zoo?
