Now that the weather is nice we have been able to move training outdoors to a schutzhund field. We are working towards Ivan’s BH title. We hope to be able to enter a trial in the Fall.

SUPER!! Way to go, Lynda & Mr. Ivan! You will have your BH in no time.
Watch the video and you will see her drop the ball from her armpit as a reward. I **think** Lynda is holding her arm across her mid-section because that is the normal way to “heel” in AKC, although not the norm in schutzhund. Am I right Lynda?
Hi Josie,
Yes, I have Ivan’s ball under my arm as Julie said.
In the cooler weather I had a jacket with lots of pockets but at the training this week it was much warmer so I was wearng a T-shirt and I did not have a place for the ball. I must get a training vest of some kind. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good, light weight training vest I could get?
My arm was across my body for two reasons….
1. I was trying to keep the ball tucked in
2. I am not too tall and Ivan is a big boy so my hand was hitting his head as we walked forward. As I am working on building his drive and I didn’t want to keep hitting him on the head!
Yes Julie, that is how Ivan was trained for heeling in AKC obedience but not how it should be done in the BH so I’ll have to work on that.

At the Nationals I noticed that shorter people with taller dogs were having a problem with the location of their left arm while heeling. The judge penalized quite a few for “cradling” the dog. In order to not bump the dog with their hand, the hand was held on the outside of the dog, so that the dog’s head was between the hand and handler’s leg. The judge made comments during the critique that this was not acceptable. You short people will just need to get a leg stretch. 😉
Great vest with many pockets to hold all types of equipment. One of the options is a ball-drop pocket. There is also a vest with a mesh back for warmer weather. Tell Kate that I sent you.
Thanks for sharing more wonderful photographs and videos of you and Ivan. I absolutely adore Ivan. The minute I met him I fell in love with him. You always work as one, whether with Ivan or Dylan. You are amazing to watch!
And yet another Alta-Tollhaus superstar!! You go you two!
A superstar in performance and the show ring! Mr. SG1 Ivan!
Thanks Monica.

Are you holding a toy Lynda? Oh lordy, Ivan is looking so handsome! Love that super bushy tail of his. I don’t doubt he’ll get his BH this year!

I’ll call and make an appointment for leg stretching right away!
