Prior to leaving for what will be our final destination we needed to make sure that Ivan & Dylan were well exercised and good & tired. We took them to the Plantation County Heritage Park for a long walk.
Playing ball
Herding ducks
Two hot and tired dogs
They needed to be tired because they were flying from Ft. Lauderdale to…..
…Nassau, Bahamas!
I was thinking…where would you go from Florida…and Cuba kept coming to mind. 🙂
How the heck did the dogs get to ride in the plane like that? Did you charter the flight? I am so jealous, I would love to fly with my dogs like that.
Right now I think there are a whole lot of people wishing they could be one of your dogs!
NOW I know why you didn’t want to see me BEFORE your final destination. You were afraid that I would grab hold of your ankles and beg to go along!
So how the heck did you get to fly like that? Do you have your own private shuttle service? I’ve never been in a plane that small, but I’m sure I could have gotten adjusted to it.
“Dear God. If I die tomorrow, please let me come back as one of Jack & Lynda’s dogs. NOT Julie’s—her dogs fly in the baggage compartment. Amen.”
“NOT Julie’s—her dogs fly in the baggage compartment. Amen.”
Ain’t that the truth!!!
Carole, you crack me up!! LOL!!!
Have fun in the Bahamas Lynda!
Have fun you guys! Love the shot of Ivan herding the ducks!
OMG, what lucky dogs. Was that the Dylan-Ivan express service? Can I come live w/you guys? Has Ivan been herding tested?
Hi Lisa,
No, we have not had a chance to do any herding work with Ivan. Would love to if I can find time….want to do agility and tracking too!!!
The dogs look like travel pros. Good luck at the show this weekend. I predict great success!
OMG Carole! HAHAHAHAHHA
Enjoy your trip and we can’t wait to hear the details of how you accomplished this!
For those of you who do not know, I grew up in the Bahamas as my parents moved there when I was 2 years old. My sister was born in Nassau. In 2008 my mother moved from Nassau to the Cape and lives next door to Jack and me. My sister and her family live in Nassau.
I have flown to the Bahamas many times with my dogs. Way back when…in the good old days… I flew with Orion (my previous Labrador Retriever) from Boston to Nassau via Atlanta with him in the cargo compartment many, many times. I also flew to Florida and to Texas twice for National Agility Championships with Orion and never had a problem with the airlines (mostly on Delta who were good with the animals).
As things got stricter at the airports and flying began more of a hassle, for us, not the dogs, and I became more of a worry wart, Jack drove me to NY so Dylan and I could take a direct flight to Nassau (there are no direct flights from Boston) to avoid the change in planes. In 2007 Jack and I, along with Dylan and Kelsey, drove to NY and took a direct flight also. The dogs were still in the cargo area but at least we weren’t changing planes.
This time when we decided to bring the “boys” to Nassau my sister told me about a friend who has a small plane and flies cargo back and forth between Ft. Lauderdale and Nassau. She said he also flew people and pets. I contacted him and he said the dogs were welcome on the plane and they did not even have to be in crates!
That is how our plan to drive to Ft Lauderdale started! It just so happened that the Carolina GSWDC Show fit in with the dates so we went via NC.
We got a very good rate for us and the dogs to fly to Nassau….although it would have been cheaper with Chihuahuas as you pay for the dogs (and luggage) by the pound!!
It was so nice and easy and less stressful than flying commercially as we went out of the Ft Lauderdale Executive airport on a small plane so did not have to be at the airport hours before the flight, go through major security etc.
That is so cool! I will pay for my dogs by the pound any day, but I wouldn’t want to pay for myself that way….too embarrassing!
I think I want to take my dogs to the Bahamas, it looks like fun.
I think you should hold an Alta-Tollhaus reunion for the dogs there in the winter!!
What a great idea!
Wow!! When I realised you were going to the Bahamas, my first question was “Can you take the dogs with you?” Now that I see the photos I realise how you did it and am now beside myself with excitement that we can do it too! Can you let us know the contact details for the pilot please?
Thanks for sharing your adventures – I have thoroughly enjoyed it and looking forward to your updates each night got me through the seemingly endless days at the Trade Show!
Hi Andrea,
Glad you are enjoying the travel updates. When I’m back I will e-mail you all the details about the plane and where we stayed etc. (Remind me if I forget!)
