I am determined to start my puppy with a healthy diet, so here’s my simple plan for this month.

He will be fed 6-10% of his bodyweight daily. I am feeding one source of meat a week to eliminate any allergies.

Age: 8 weeks old Weight 12.3 lbs.

week 1

1 lb. ground chicken (Bravo premixed) fed 3 x a day

week 2

ground turkey fed 3 x day.

week 3

ground beef/chunks

week 4

chicken wings/breast /necks

green tripe, I like the products from greentripe.com especially the Xkaliber

turkey, beef/liver

Your puppy is wondering what he did to end up in such a super home, he might even be wondering if Texas is just another name for heaven.

I will look into greentripe.com

You remind me of Robin, in that you are very meticulous.

Roman wants to know if he can stop by for dinner. Congrats on your gorgeous pup!! It’s always great to see another of Julie’s dogs hit the jackpot!

Heck, can I come to dinner? OK—I might like it cooked just a tad. 😉

Can you explain about the 1 meat source a week to eliminate allergies? What do you do on wk 5?

@Lisa

Since he is just a baby and we don’t know if he has any allergies, we’ll start with 1 meat source, like chicken for a whole week- see if there’s any allergic reaction. Turkey next week then beef the next etc. It’s just my way of making sure that if does show any allergic reaction, I know which food caused it.

On week 5, I will start feeding variety of meat a week. Mon- he might get chicken, Tues -beef, Wed – turkey, Thurs – greentripe, Fri -rabbit.

HOOORAY for you! You are doing it exactly right!!! You’re rotation plan is excellent! Keep rotating every week…..forever! The Bravo Balance has all the vitamins and minerals added which is GREAT to keep your little one supplied with everything his little body needs to grow strong and healthy!!! Your calculations of increasing with his body weight are right on! If you ever want to try making your own homemade food, check out Dr. Karen Becker’s book “Real Food For Healthy Dogs & Cats” from http://www.naturalpetproductions.com. Her recipes have been analyzed and compared to the standards of AAFCO and the National Research Council and to their analysis of the “natural diet” for a K-9 from studies done by zoo’s. Keep up the good work! Hearing how you’ve decided to feed just makes me smile!!! :-)) Best of luck to you and your beautiful new little baby! Karen

Hi Karen,

I am glad you voiced your thoughts on this, I was wondering what your take would be.

I’d skip the pre-made. It is over priced and you can do it yourself.

I’m only doing the premade for a month, then I’m going back to buying 40 lb chicken backs/necks.

Love your blog!
