The flights to and from were uneventful. No problems with the airlines shipping Kira. Well…. other then I flew Northwest and they charged $500 each way for her as excess baggage compared to Delta $100 each way or Lufthansa $137 each way. At that price Kira should have had a seat. Speaking of that I tried the new bus service from Detroit Metro to Jackson MI. They let Kira ride on a seat, she was a perfect passenger. The bus had WIFI! More then I can say about Germany. While the internet cafes have all but disappeared from Germany, WIFI has not caught on. Maybe in a year or so. It was really hard being caught without wireless and without a phone. I did buy European pre-paid cell phone but some computer was down and it didn’t work for most of my trip. Car rentals in Germany are hit and miss. Never have we gotten what we have reserved, this time I was being less selective then ever. All I wanted was automatic and GPS. I got neither. The manual transmission wasn’t a problem but no GPS was definitely a problem. I will spare you the hours of details in trying to find 30 Barnstrausser, Detmold, DE.
When I finally was able to get online I had an email from my sister Jill telling of our other sister taking our father off of dialysis and he has 3 days to live, get home to Duluth now….the email was already 3 days old! The next few days were quite upsetting for me as you can imagine. My Dad is still alive but not cognizant for more then a moment or two. Tiffany and I are heading out tomorrow by car. Caitlin, my kennel girl, will be staying at the house to help Mos out and to give the puppies much needed attention that they will not get from Mos. I probably will bring Kayla with us. Poor Kayla, the day before I got home she crawled into Mos’s kennels undoubtedly thinking she was in for a play session, instead she got chewed up quite badly. It is so pathetic looking at Kayla, this is a dog that has lead her entire life without anything bad ever happening to her, not even a bad word. She is totally confused that that there is pain in this world, it is so sad. I would have loved to keep her thinking life was only all things wonderful. I am hitting the down points of my trip and apologize but it is good to get it all out of my system. Overall it was a great trip and I everything I went there for was accomplished! I will post pictures and details when I can, right now, priority-one is getting to Duluth.
The Funny-Jimmy pups are toooooooo cute!!!! They are absolutely perfect! I don’t want to leave them!
More later,
Julie
Oh, Julie, I am so sorry to hear about your father. I used to live in Hayward, WI, and spent a good deal of time in Duluth with dog activities back in the 70’s and very early 80’s. I know where you will be traveling – be safe and it is good you will have Tiffany with you.
NW has always been more expensive, but $500 each way is ridiculous! Poor little Kayla, I’m so sorry that happened. Nothing ever goes as well as it should when “Momma” is gone – I know the feeling.
BIG hugs to you and Kira – job well done! I’m happy you accomplished all you set out to do.
I’m glad you’re back and that Caitlin can give the pups attention, and help Mos. I’ll bet they are big and beautiful. We look forward to hearing more from you whenever time permits. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers ~ j.
Oh my J…what trauma to come home to! B and I will take some food down to Mos over the weekend. Perhaps he will let us love up the pups a bit?
Poor Kayla! She is a resilient girl, I think she will get over her brush with reality. It was bound to happen sooner or later.
Sending loads of love to you and strength to deal with what you must. Call me if you want to talk…
Love,
T
