This weekend we showed at the UKC Michigan Classic in Mason. It was a lot of fun and we met a lot of new friends. Ember earned a Total Dog with a qualifying score in Rally 1 and Reserve Best in Show Altered. She qualified in rally the second day but did not qualify in conformation so she did not get another Total Dog. I had a friend show Cabrera so Ember would have competition because it is hard to find competition in breed for altered and he was very naughty. He stood backwards for his stand for exam and drug my friend around the ring. I can’t say that I’m surprised because he wanted to be with Ember and me. I wanted Ember to win anyways, so I’m not upset by his behavior in the least. He’s my naughty boy. 🙂 I didn’t even need to bring him since she won Reserve Best in Show. Oh well. 🙂
Joker earned two Total Dogs by qualifying in Rally 1 both days and placed 3/4 in group Day 1 and 4/7 Day 2. He had a huge win in Rally day 1, placing first out of 22 dogs in his very first rally show. I showed Joker in his first CPE agility show last weekend and he qualified in both Standard and Fullhouse and loved every minute of it.
Ember also went to Horizon Elementary School to visit first graders this week. She has been visiting the school since she was 8 weeks old and is very well known there. They all love her and she loves visiting them. They love seeing all of her tricks and she loves to kiss them while they pet her. They have a special needs child that is scared of dogs because her neighbor dog grabbed her jacket and shook her. They want me to start coming on a regular basis with the dogs to visit her, and other special needs kids who are afraid of the dogs to teach them that not all dogs are scary. The special needs child met Ember and walked right up to her and pet her. She loved Ember and the staff were very surprised that the girl was not afraid of Ember. Ember was such a good girl.
Here are some pictures that I took this week of the kids.
How do you manage that many dogs at one show? I know people do it all the time, but man I had my hands full at the show I took only Steve to! Nice work and lots of pretty ribbons. I wish you had included video of your friends run with Cabrera; sounds hilarious!!
This is the first time that I took 3 dogs by myself. It was a lot to handle, especially with showing rally and conformation at the same time with 2 dogs. They were good with conflicts so it all worked out. I’m glad that I do not have video evidence of Cabrera’s naughty behavior. 🙂
WOW,what a weekend! I saw this briefly on fb, but then lost it. Sounds like you were very busy. the kids are looking good. When you show in conformation is it like working dog or AKC?
UKC is more like AKC in conformation but I don’t have my dogs run so far ahead and out of control. Ember has learned to gate ahead of me nicely but there is no double handling. I struggle with Joker gating because he wants to look up at me, which throws his front end off, but I’ve been working him in rally quite a bit.
A ton of loot – congratulations!
