I might have mentioned on Facebook that Camp Kayla has gone to the rats, under the name Dare2Train. We held our first Barn Hunt seminar and fun test with Judge Gordon Roberts last weekend. We plan to host our first official Barn Hunt trial this Spring.
Barb probably lost count of how many times someone asked if Syd was an Alta-Tollhaus dog. Barb would say, “Yep” and their response would be, “I KNEW IT!” Says a little something about Julie’s breeding program, doesn’t it?
I’m so jealous! I wish I lived in FL, for so many reasons, but one of them is that I want to start barn hunt with my guys. My female Papillon would love it. She’s constantly looking for little critters. I’m glad that Syd is having fun!
If you are interested in Barn Hunt and live in FL, we are offering lessons with Gordon Roberts who is part of the Dare2Train team.
Gordon (aka, Rob) is a well-respected A-licensed Barn Hunt Judge. His judging assignments take him all over the country. He is also an excellent seminar presenter and coach. Clubs are taking advantage of his expertise and offering a seminar the day before a trial. If you see he is in your area, GO!
There are two Barn Hunt trials coming up in the Novi & Farmington Hills area in Jan & Feb. To find info about trials go to: http://www.barnhunt.com/eventcal.html
By the way – German Shepherds LOVE this event!!!
Carole,
If I were to go to the Novi show, would I be able to try out Barn Hunt or since it’s a trial, I would have to be signed up? I was thinking about going for conf with Joker but concerned about the weather. I might be talked into going for several things. They have a weight pull demo as well.
All dogs need a Barn Hunt registration number to compete in a trial. However, you can find clinics and fun tests that don’t require a registration number to see if your dog likes it. Registration numbers are easy to get from the barn hunt website.
It is rare to find a dog who doesn’t like this game!
If your dog has had no exposure, start out with Instinct.
Some clubs will allow “day of” entries.
A barn hunt group just started up here about an hour from me. Once I am done tracking, I will start both my girls on this. I am sure Ziva will have a grand time!
Carole,
I saw your photos on FB. Looks like fun for dog and human!
Now, what is in the tubes? Is that where the rat goes?
How old does the dog need to be to participate?
