Today the Mayflower II, a replica of the ship that carried the Pilgrims to Massachusetts in 1620, was being moved from her berth in Plymouth Harbor for her trip to Mystic Seaport’s Henry B. DuPont Preservation Shipyard for repairs and maintenance.
My mother and I, along with Aiden, went to Ellisville Harbor State Park in Plymouth where we had a nice walk down trails to the beach. We met several people and dogs. Aiden was able to play with two yellow Labradors while we were waiting to see the Mayflower II being towed out of Plymouth Harbor.
Unfortunately it was quite overcast but we were lucky that the rain held off. We had a wonderful time and it was a great experience. What a pleasure it is to be able to take Aiden anywhere and everywhere.
Once the ship arrives at her destination, Mystic Seaport’s shipwrights and Plimoth Plantation’s maritime artisans will replace the half-deck area of the ship and repair her tween deck and some of her topmast rigging. A crew of eight from Plimoth Plantation’s Maritime Preservation and Operations group is accompanying the ship on the trip as part of a multi-year preservation initiative.
Finished in 1957, the Mayflower II was a gift from the British government to thank the U.S. for its role in World War II. Plimoth Plantation is ramping up its efforts to preserve the ship in advance of the town of Plymouth’s 2020 commemoration of 400 years since the pilgrims’ arrival.

Here comes the Mayflower II
We then hopped in the car and drove back over the bridge to the Cape Cod Canal where we were able to see the Mayflower II up close as she was being towed through the canal.

It mist have been so neat to see a ship like that on the ocean. Aiden is a lucky boy he has such a nice place to romp with his friends.
Aiden is such a lucky boy! He gets to play on the beach AND be exposed to culturally significant events!
