Following the track with a nice deep nose,  on the side of a ditch,  next to a road.  Lots of opportunity for scent to travel and cause them to go off track, but not this girl!

Nice deep nose on the side of a ditch next to a road.

Below is her latest practice track.  It is called “All Obstacles all of the time.”  There were 5 articles and 6 obstacles; Ditch, hedgerow, rock wall, weed cover up to my shoulders, a farm road and woods.  A normal test would only have 2 obstacles.  She found all of the articles and ran the track well.  Oddly, she got lost at the start line.  She took off like gangbusters and then sort of petered out.  Then she started searching and took off again.  The whistle blew.  Ruth said she would have followed her also and does not know why she went off track.  We backed up about 100 feet and then she found it and stayed on the rest of the track.  The tall weed cover was very disturbing for me-I could not see her at all and I am used to watching her to read what she is telling me.  All I know is at one point after what seemed like hours of searching in circles around me, she pulled me out of the weeds and down the hill and off we went.  The yellow lines are the tracklayers path, the dotted lines are our path-where they are not together are where she is searching for the track.  The last corner was very tricky.  She was lured to continue to follow the hedgerow and I had to do a lot of reading her signals and ended up walking backwards to where I knew she last had the track  where she was able to pick it back up and turn into the woods.
She is a very hard worker!

Awesome! However, would you please purchase a drone so that we can all witness this amazing work? I love, love, love your use of Google maps!

I have put up a new video showing the loss of the track-it is not a drone, but as close as we can get 🙂

Not knowing where the track is and then not being able to see your dog on top of that…super scary. If you have never tracked a dog, it is a real leap of faith and takes some real skills to learn to read your dog.

It is the best feeling……….or most humble to a human…………
TRUST YOUR DOG………They are better than you….at some things. 🙂
We teach or train them to do “things”. They “do” what they know.
Tracking is such a lesson for humans. Amazing.
