Saturday was day 2 of a 3 day agility trial, hosted today by the Colonial Shetland Sheepdog Club. Although it is a 3 day trial we only entered Aiden for two days as we are back to work and on a summer schedule starting tomorrow. No more weekends off until after Labor Day.
Aiden’s first class of the day was Excellent FAST. This was his first time in this class as he titled yesterday in Open FAST. Once again part of the “bonus” was the 12 weave poles. Today he needed to jump, weave and take another jump straight ahead and not take a trap jump, all of this with me 15 feet away and at an angle. On the jump after the weaves you can see in the video that he gets a little confused but works it out without ever turning his back to the jump or taking the trap jump therefore we earned the “bonus”. Only two dogs in the class got the “bonus” and Aiden had racked up the most points and came in 1st.
Aiden’s second class of the day was Excellent Standard Agility. Unfortunately Aiden missed a jump and went directly to a tunnel therefore was off course and did not qualify. I got him back on course and he finished with no more faults. This is Excellent…No room for error!
Then there was over a 4 hour wait for his next two classes.
“Is it my turn yet?”
Time 2 Beat was the next class. There was one part where Aiden went over a jump and the tunnel was right in front of him but he was not supposed to take the tunnel…..and he did. NQ!
The last class of the day was Open Jumpers with Weaves. I don’t think we will EVER get out of Open Jumpers….another bar down today-NQ.
I am very proud of my boy.
Congratulations Team Aiden! So agile through the weave poles. I love the way Aiden seemed to check himself towards the bottom of the A Frame.
Linda,
What if you just ented him in Open JWW only? Concentrate on that only. You know he can do it, we all know he can do it. 🙂
Terri and Qwendi
Hi Terri,
That’s a good suggestion. Except for the Cape Cod KC agility trial most trials are held at places quite far away from us. The money for gas and hotels etc would not make it worth doing just one class each day. Another main reason is Aiden would be far more excited and “out of control” if he just did one class. We enter the FAST class if it is offered as it is normally the first class of the day. If you look in the videos you can see how “wound” up Aiden is…he bounds around like “Tigger”! A knocked bar in FAST is not an automatic NQ (unless part of the Send Bonus) as it is in Jumpers.
We will keep working on it.
And, you will get it! 🙂
Super weekend, Lynda!
