Today (Sunday) was the last day of the Cape Cod Kennel Club outdoor Agility Trial. The weather has been hotter than we are used to and the days were very long. Aiden was entered in 4 classes each day and although he only qualified twice we had a great weekend.
Aiden’s only qualifying run today was in Open FAST. He earned 71 out of 80 points, including the send bonus, and placed 1st. This is his 2nd Open FAST leg.
When not running Aiden in a class or working at this trial we found plenty of time to walk Aiden and go socializing.
While on one of our walks we ran into Yasha cooling off.
Yasha splashing Aiden
Yasha telling Aiden that it’s her pool
BUT 40 years later……. It’s Still Not Safe To Go In The Water (Jaws 1975)
I bet you and Aiden are exhausted – it has been a hot weekend! I love the Jaws picture, you guys crack me up. Thanks, as always, for sharing your adventure with us, Lynda.
Great pics Lynda. What do the numbers they are calling out mean?
Hi Lisa,
In the FAST (Fifteen and Send Time) class the obstacles have different point values. There is no set course and the handlers run the course they choose. As the dog completes an obstacle the judge calls out the point value. There is also a “Send Bonus” where the dog has to work away from the handler. The difficulty and distance increases as you go up in level – Novice, Open etc. You have to get a certain number of points and complete the bonus to qualify.
It is a fun class to run.
From the AKC website:
The Fifteen and Send Time class uses fifteen (15) point valued obstacles and/or obstacle combinations. The course will include a “Send Bonus” or distance element that will award a bonus of twenty (20) points if completed successfully, and is identified as the “Send Bonus.” Six of the fifteen (15) point valued obstacles must be single bar jumps (typically winged) valued at one point each. Winged jumps are assumed to have a value of one point unless otherwise denoted by the judge. Nine (9) additional obstacles on the course will be assigned unique values from 2 through 10 by the judge. There is a maximum of 80 possible FAST class points awarded at all levels, which is the sum of the fifteen point valued obstacles (60 points) plus a Send Bonus value of 20 points. Teams must successfully complete the Send Bonus to achieve a qualifying score, as well as a minimum number of required points defined at each class level. To earn points, all obstacles must be completed in accordance with the obstacle performance requirements identified in these Regulations.
Holy cow—If I do this then I have to do math besides—–I thought this was supposed to be fun–LOL I can barely walk and chew gum at the same time
Don’t worry Lisa….you don’t have to fun and add up the points at the same time!! LOL.
You get a course sheet before the class with the obstacles and point values assigned and you can walk the course to come up with your own strategy.
Then the judge and scribe do the rest and you get a sheet after your run with all the points you earned.
It IS fun!!
It’s a great class to run first thing in the morning to calm a big, enthusiastic goof ball before his standard agility run!
*You don’t have to RUN and….
I love the pic of Yasha claiming the pool
Excellent job, Team Aiden!
