This past weekend, Jennifer, Ember, Qwendi, and I traveled to Mason, Michigan for a UKC show. I made reservations at the Red Roof Inn in East Lansing (a disapointment). During our trial/show, there was another event going on in Ann Arbor. A locked van, with 3 huskies inside was stolen from a Red Roof Inn, while the owner was pottying one of her other dogs. Eventually, all dogs were recovered, Thank God!
Just think how easy this could be any of us, who travel with our buddies.
I usually travel by myself, with my dog and my gun. Let’s put our heads together and come up with some good suggestions….so, our dogs won’t be involved in a stupid act of car theft.
Easiest and cheapest…is the buddy system…like I said, I’m usually solo.
My thoughts are towards stainless steel crates, with locks…and a club on my steering wheel.
Does a club prevent auto theft? I have no clue.
I can’t even wrap my head around the thought that someone would steal my van………with Qwendi inside. Take the stupid van…it’s insured………BUT do not lay your miserable hands on my girl.
I haven’t heard of the club being used in decades.
After seeing on the news that criminals now can scan cars with keyless entries and unlock them, made me think of the old fashioned club. If the steering wheel is in a locked position….I’m assuming the car isn’t going anywhere.
If anything….it could by you time to get back to your vehicle and draw your weapon???
I am changing the hotel reservations I have for the May singer show out of ion to a hotel in a safer area. Especially since Illinois does not recognize concealed permits from other states. But I guess we all can open carry. 🙂
Sad the sight for the Sieger Show is in a not so safe place. It would take a pretty stupid theif to enter the site of a bunch of German Shepherd Dogs and their peeps!
How far away did you have to go, Julie…..for a hotel?
I reserved rooms for everyone 30 minutes away, but a very nice and safe area, near excellent restaurants. A friend from the area found the hotel and filled me in on the crime in the area. I believe the resort will be safe during the show. But I wouldn’t want to leave dogs in a trailer or car outside of the hotel in that area, especially after the van theft in Ann Arbor with three dogs inside.
A 30 minute drive is well worth it, when it comes to being safe. Thanks for getting our rooms, Julie.
Has anyone had luck using the “easy” one click registration button on the USCA website…for the Sieger Show? It doesn’t want to work for me. 🙁
Julie, this is too funny! I’m getting ready to send in Qwendi’s entry to the Sieger Show…I click on “Important Facts” of Zion……………….
Along with no Conceal Carry…….It’s a “dry town”. OMG what were they thinking??? Don’t they know that alot of German folks like to “party”. LOL
Absolutely agree Fargo……take whatever I own…..Van, $$$, etc. but DO NOT mess with my dog! Hope you all have fun & are safe at the show.
