I’m going on a little trip soon….so, kenneling DuKe and BJ…which meant a trip to our friendly Dr. Jessica. DuKe weighs 68#….but what she saw is………..his canines are wearing down. I had checked them before..and wondered the same thing.
His favorite toy outside………his old Jolly Ball. I think the plastic stuff it’s made of is too abrasive for his teeth. 🙁 I will have to wait til when he’s not looking to pitch it.
I bought him one that is smaller and has a rope thru it……I think this one will work better for him…bc…he uses the rope instead of the ball…to play and swing it around.
Terri and DuKe
I had the same issue with the hard plastic ones. Substituted them for the softer rubber Jo;;y balls. They do not last as long but their teeth last longer.
Julie,
I had NO idea there was a difference in the plastic???
The one he plays with is old and deflated…and abrasive. In the trash it goes!
Terri
The hard one I was referring to is red with several large holes in it and a smaller yellow ball inside. The softer one is a blue rubber with a handle. Which were you using?
I looked closer at Ziva’s canines-she is wearing her’s off!!! We have the jolly ball with the handle. I wonder if the dirt acts like sandpaper???
Lisa, does she have the red one? It must be the plastic.
I’ve heard that products from Nylabone can have this effect on some dogs.
I also bought him the kind of jolly ball with the rope thru it, like Embers’. He plays with that in the house…what I like about this one is…he holds it by the rope.
She has red,. purple and blue. She did not play with the hard plastic one with the ball inside like Libby did. She had one like Ember’s, but Libby chewed the rope off (she has a rope fetish) and then Ziva lost interest in it.
Julie,
I one DuKe is now playing with belonged to my Moms’ pony. He never played with it, so Mom gave it to Rudi, who deflated it immediately. This was red and made for horses, I guess. Both dogs loved playing with it. It’s a big hunk of plastic, but DuKe loves it. Still, I’m trashing it.
I went to PSP and bought him a new one before he saw the vet. The one I bought is red…with a handle, but no ball in it. It’s a Jolly Ball made by Jolly Pets.
I know Palas’ was blue……..I will need to find the blue type and return this hard red one.
Terri
Did Pala have a million little tooth puncture holes bitten in hers? That is what ZIva’s look like after about a month.
