He doesn’t have any important letters after his name… but today, Kaline is the best dog in the world! Okay, in my humble opinion….. Today, I was outside with Kaline playing some fetch to wear him out. I’d probably thrown the ball with my spiffy new ‘chuckit’ about 3 times down the hill that is our driveway. On the 4th heave I saw a deer about 10 feet off to the left of the driveway (in the trees) just as I released the tennis ball. I was so hoping the deer would just stand there. Kaline was focused on the ball and ran by the deer. He turned and started to run toward me — when the deer ran right across the driveway in between us! Kaline went about 10 or 15 feet after the deer at a little trot. I was scared but just called him and my wonderful boy turned and ran to me full on. Ah, what a good boy! Of course, I was doing the ‘happy dance’ like we were just learning /teaching recall! I can’t say how relieved I was that Kaline did not go after the deer. Kaline may not be perfect, but an excellent recall goes a long way toward making up for some other less desirable traits.
(Sorry I can’t seem to be able to figure out how to post a picture of my guy.)
Yes he IS the best dog in the world!!!!! Way to go Kaline and Laura for the good training!
Good boy to come back to Momma when the deer are teasing him.
