This weekend I took Ember to a Pet Fest at the Humane Society of Elkhart County. There were many games and events to enjoy and Ember had a lot of fun. One of the games was “Musical Hula Hoops”. There were hula hoops on the ground and when the music stopped, you had to both be in the hula hoop with the dog sitting. The dog not sitting in a hula hoop was out. We won third place out of 12-13 people/dogs. I was very proud of her. The first and second place dogs were a Pom and Yorkie mix that were lunging aggressively at other dogs, so I didn’t push the issue with trying to get Ember in the same hula hoop with them. I was just proud that she behaved so well being that close to other dogs (she wants to play with everyone). She also loved the kiddie pools that they had there and entertained everyone by playing in them. We practiced a rally course that was set up, which makes me excited for our obedience class that starts in Sept.
Well….I guess that is one way to win the hula hoop game, chase the other dogs out!
Thank you for sharing your fun day!
It’s amazing how little dogs can get away with so much crap. Looks like you & Ember had a great day!
Carole,
I completely agree with you about little dogs (which I am very partial to!) My Lucy is very reactive to other dogs, but I have competed with her for several years and haven’t had a problem because I keep a close eye on her and am not afraid to tell others that she is aggressive to other dogs. People look at Ember when they let their dog get too close to her and then she lunges at it playfully, like she is some aggressive dog. First, she wasn’t being aggressive, second I’m trying to work with her on that, and third keep your dog away! The Pom that was aggressive to others was on a retractable leash and would run up to other dogs aggressively with lots of leash before the owner finally stopped it. Why are all aggressive dogs kept on retractable leashes? Going to competitions is definitely different than going to fun events with non-show dog owners. I never have a problem with dogs getting too close to my dogs at agility shows.

Every idiot in the world takes their dog in a crowd on their flexi-leash.
Sounds like a super day out. We love doing different things with our “kids”.
Musical Hula Hoops…what a great idea!
Looks like you and Ember had a good time-what a great idea the hula hoop game is. I like the idea of the pools for cooling off to.
