Natura Press Release:
Natura Pet Issues Voluntary Recall of Specialized Dry Pet Foods Due to Possible Health Risk
FREMONT, NEBRASKA, June 18, 2013
Natura Pet Products is voluntarily recalling specific lots of dry pet food because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.
Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.
Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.
These products were packaged in a single production facility. During routine FDA testing, a single lot tested positive for the presence of Salmonella. There have been no reports of pet or human illness associated with this product. In an abundance of caution, Natura is voluntarily recalling all products with expiration dates prior to June 10, 2014.

Thank you, Karen!
Watch—next will be Diamond and Diamond-made products.
You are very welcome!
Gosh! Natura just had that other recall in March: March 29, 2013 – Natura Pet has today announced it is expanding its recall of specific California Natural, Innova, EVO, Karma and Healthwise formulas as a “precautionary measure” due to potential contamination with Salmonella bacteria.
I wonder IF we will EVER find out the reason behind these kibbles having salmonella?
Hmmmmmm…..more sleuthing to do! 🙂
“Watch—next will be Diamond and Diamond-made products.”
RIGHT?????
Well, let’s hope that the Natura plant gets a better report than the FDA made on dirty conditions of DIAMOND!
“Cross contamination, filthy and unmaintained equipment, no hand washing stations, employees without gloves… it all sounds like a description of the food industry before health and safety regulations were put into place, right?Unfortunately, these are all observations made by the FDA during an April 2012 inspection of Diamond Pet Food Plant.” http://dogingtonpost.com/fda-inspection-report-shows-disgusting-conditions-at-diamond-pet-foods-plant/#.UcJJoJzBki0
Big “LIKE!”
amazing…
I feed Cal Nat Lamb and Rice (no plans to change since ALL my dogs do very well on this kibble). I’ve been sick and just realized last night that I only have one day’s worth of food left. And sure enough that bag is one that’s “effected” so I’m getting a reimbursement from Natura. The sucky thing is though, my local pet store pulled ALL the Cal Nat off the shelves, it’s ALL effected this time. So starting today I’ve got to switch three dogs cold turkey to a new brand/formula. I stopped at the pet store on the way to work and everyone there was in the same boat as me. I asked the cashier about it and he said that in human grade food there is an acceptable level of salmonella but in dog food there is not, so it’s actually more strict for DOG food than human food even though dogs are less susceptible to salmonella. This is just a precautionary recall, no dogs have been sick. I would keep feeding it except I’m out and no one is stocking it right now.
That has to be SO hard for you and others who feed it!
Lies, I don’t know what you are ill with but since you have a recalled bag, make sure you don’t have the following symptoms of salmonella poisoning:
Nausea
Vomiting
Abdominal pain
Diarrhea
Fever.
Headache
Muscle pains
Blood in the stool
Chills
I wish you luck with your temporary kibble change.
