Unfortunately, the litter I was planning to get a puppy from did not take. 🙁 Because of time constraints and distance, the owner of the bitch was only able to do one breeding and we think it may have been a day late. This was a maiden bitch and had not had her progesterone tracked before. I’m pretty bummed since I felt this bitch would help maintain and enhance all the qualities I like in Nikon. If we can work it out logistically, we will try again some other time. Many of the puppies including pick male and female were spoken for before we even did the mating.
Since I am not getting Nikon’s puppy this summer, I agreed to adopt a small mixed breed dog that a friend alerted me to. We got her this past Sunday and she’s doing well. She’s actually sleeping in my lap while I type this. Nikon is sort of like her big brother, making sure she stays in line, learns the ropes here, and starting to share his toys.
According to our team captain, Nikon will be running on the competing team at U-FLI Nationals in August. Nikon ran on the qualifier team last month, but the qualifier team just has to get you there, you can run a completely different team at the national. However Nikon is one of the top six dogs on our team currently so he gets to run “for real”.
Two weekends ago we did a UKC event. I showed Nikon 4 times. He did not get any GRCH legs, we were up against a *very* nice GRCH that kept winning (and actually won Best in Show) and I don’t think there was enough competition for a defeat to count anyway. He did earn 3 lure coursing legs toward his CAX title (12 legs). We also tried weight pull but he didn’t seem to enjoy it much so I’m not sure if we’ll add that to the repertoire.
June will be busy! June 8-9 we have a flyball tournament, June 13-16 we’ll be dock diving and lure coursing at the UKC Premier, June 22 our flyball team is doing a 4H demo, and June 29 we’re going for the NW1 (Nosework).
We also joined an agility handling class. It is way advanced for me but really fun even if we have to take each course in small pieces.
You’re new puppy is beautiful. Do you have any plans for her, agility, flyball? 🙂 I don’t look at a dog now without thinking, “how would you do at agility?” Nikon is such a handsome guy. Congratulations on all of your accomplishments. You must be so proud.
Nikon is a very good jumper as seen in the video. With weight pull Gavin and I were watching it and he told me, really he did, that he wanted to do it. So they let us practice and the next day he earned his first leg.
Nikon looks great. I am really sorry the breeding did not take. Natural breedings are the best.
Indy he is so darn cute!!! I think you will have loads of fun with him.
NIkon is a working machine!
