Forgive this non-GSD post, Carole thought some of you runners might be interested in this. I medaled this weekend too. I did my 1st 5K. It was the Disney Princess 1/2 Marathon weekend and one of my friends wanted to sign up for the Royal Family 5K. So, despite the fact that I had tickets to Wicked on Saturday at 2, I agreed to get up at 4:15 am to be in my corral at Epcot no later than 5:45. The minimum pace was a 16 minute mile, so not exactly strenuous… a run/walk 5k. Strollers could participate. Actually, the half marathon has the same pace requirements and if you go too slow, they pick you up and transport you to the finish.
We had to stop for some pictures along the way.
Now, the friend I did this with has pink pin striping on her white Tahoe along with the word Princess at the end of the pin striping on each side. The medal for the 1/2 marathon runners was metal and was a princess crown/tiara. The medal for the Royal Family 5k was rubber and no crown or tiara. I thought she was going to throw a Royal fit. She said next year we have to do the 13 miler so we can get the right medal. There’s a 10 mile Tower of Terror coming up in October she thinks we should look into. Never mind that we were back to my house by 9 or 9:30 and she didn’t seem to want to walk all that far when I suggested we take Kai out. I don’t think she would mind the shame of being transported to the finish as long as she got her medal. So, they already have the dates in February 2014 for the Princess 1/2 Marathon. Anybody interested? Hmmm?
LOL, you Floridians have the best weekends. Congratulations on your medal!
I like that you stopped to pose with Mulan.
Florida, February, Disney???? Count me in 🙂 Congratulations on your race. I think I would have ended up getting a ride.
I love it! This actually looks like fun!!!
It was fun!
The booklet they gave out had a By the Numbers section. It said there were 23,866 half runners (22,525 were female), 98 running on their birthday, the youngest 14, the oldest 96! 837 international runners, 34 countries participating and 36,420 bananas. This was the 5th year.
Did they have a number for the runners running in borrowed clothing?LOLOLOL
Lisa, YOU are Z-evil one…not Ziva!
Congrats on your 1st and I’m sure not your last 5K. I did my 1st 5k several years ago and it has evolved into many 1/2 marathons and triathlons. It becomes addictive. Roman is the best running buddy I coud ever have and has ran several races with me 🙂
You’re probably right, it won’t be my last BUT I don’t know that I’ll ever be a runner! I don’t know if I have the breath for it and that runners high people refer to I think is delirium. The National Training Center is right around the corner and apparently they’ll teach you to run there.
Running with Kai *could* be fun. He could help pull me along or it could be terrifying if he ran away with me and pulled me over or crossed in front of me. We both would need training.
Scarlett, Congratulations on your “Mickey Mouse” medal. LOL
Did you make it to “Wicked”? 🙂
DuKes’ Ma, Terri
Thanks Terri,
And yes, I most definitely made it to Wicked. 😉 “and nobody in all of Oz, no wizard that there is or was is ever going to bring me down”
No One mourns the wicked…..wicked….WICKED!
Wicked was the best-I saw it in Rochester last year and could easily go see it again.
You go girl! Since I’m such an exercise freak,I applaud your athletic endeavors!!! Running thru Disney….pure gold:))
Congratulations on your run! This is one that I’d like to eventually do. Earlier this month, my sister and I ran a 5K on Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, what an awesome experience! Those memories are helping us to get through our cold runs in this snowy weather!
We could register as the AT running club.
Disney knows how to do stuff….that’s for sure.
I just don’t know what to say… you chose all this over driving 2 hours to tampa and sitting all day in 88 degree heat to watch us … don’t know what you were thinking LOL! Congratulations on your run … Hope to see you guys soon:)
Congratualations, that is fabulous!! I absolutely hate running, so I’m with Barb. I did a half marathon many many years ago and absolutely hated the training, but the actual event was very reqarding. Needless to say though, I never did it again.
