I have never seen this before in my other German Shepherds, but perhaps I just don’t remember, because it’s been so many years. I’ve never seen this in any pictures posted on this blog, either.
When Dutch is extremely happy, or love-y, such as when we first wake up in the morning, or a friend visits, or (don’t be grossed out!) when we’re kissing and petting him, he shows all the usual joyous behavior typical of our dogs when pet them and talk lovingly to them, but along with his body language, his ears do something very strange:
Very quickly, they fold back flat against his head, seem to curl a little, then they actually fold in half, with the upper half standing straight up or even a little bit forward. It is so adorable, as if he is smiling all the way to the tips of his ears. I want to get a picture of this, but the ears quickly return to “normal” when the joyous moment passes.
Have you seen this in your dogs?
Yes, he is kinking his ears! It is a big sign of affection toward you and acknowledging you as his pack leader. Way to go, Beverly!!
Libby does this when I come home and she greets me or I am telling her what a wonderful girl she is in babytalk. Z-evil one does it also, in addition to when she thinks your not happy with something she has done. Libby on the otherhand assumes you love everything she does-when you scold her she just looks at you like “but don’t you see, this was a great idea, you just don’t realize it yet Mom”.
One word: Bliss
They do this when they are mushy-kiss-face mode and often around young children and babies.
