Today Aiden was entered in Beginner Novice B and Rally Novice B at the Ladies Dog Club Obedience and Rally Trial in Franklin, MA. We have been mostly training in IPO and occasionally doing some AKC obedience training. We have worked on Rally a little at home. We felt that Aiden was prepared enough to compete, but the main purpose for entering the trial was to expose him to the atmosphere of an indoor obedience trial and to gain some ring experience.
We tried to determine the approximate start time of Aiden’s class based on the number of dogs in the advanced classes ahead of his. Being over-anxious and nervous parents we arrived at the trial way too early! Even with the long wait Aiden was very good and took everything in stride.
Finally his first class of the day was Beginner Novice B. We have never competed in this class as it is a fairly new AKC title.
As you can see in the video, at times Aiden was distracted during the heeling phase. Overall we were very pleased with his performance and attitude. He qualified with a score of 191 (out of a possible 200) and 4th place for his first leg. There was a tie for 4th place that required a “run-off” which Aiden won. (The 1st place dog had a score of 195, 2nd place a 194 and the 3rd place dog beat Aiden by HALF a point with a 191 1/2!!)
We put the wrong year on the first video!

In Rally Novice B Aiden qualified with a score of 94 (out of a possible 100) and 1st place for his first leg.

Congratulations Aiden!
He looked so calm and is obviously having no problem reacting to different commands. Also, he was working in such a small area compared to the space he has for his IPO training – I thought he did fabulous!
Way to go Team Aiden!
Really all I can say is OMG! I cannot believe you are competing already ! O M G! I think you two are awesome. Aiden was fantastic! That recall….LOVE IT OMG! Great attitude! You do the breed proud.
Congratulations!!! O M G! 🙂
Thank you Julie
Congratulations, Lynda! I echo everything Julie and Andrea said. You two are amazing. Aiden is one impressive pup. I am especially proud that he won the run-off!
Thanks Jennie.
I was proud of Aiden in the run off also. The class was over and the qualifiers were all gathering to go in to the ring for the ribbons. Who would have ever thought there would be a run-off in Beginner Novice??? All of a sudden the judge said there would be a run-off and called Aiden’s number. I did not have time to warm him up and Jack did not have the video camera. We had to go right in the ring and it did not phase Aiden at all. As a matter of fact his heeling in the run-off was better than the first time.
How are things in CA? Please post soon. We miss you and the Batman!
What else can I say… O.M.G. 🙂
Love his focus in these pictures… the kid simply adores you!
OUTSTANDING!!!
Andrea & Julie said it all. Congratulations!
Good job Lynda and Aiden!!
Terri
he looks super especially in his rally run. Nice to see the rings there too as this is where I am going to try going for my1st leg of my CD for my Malinois :)) Is this your first dog of doing IPO with?
Beautiful job!
You’ll have to give me some pointers when I get my puppy in a few weeks! He looks great!
Hi Jennifer,
The best advice I that I can give you is to start the little one in training as soon as possible and for everyone in the household to be very consistant in letting the pup know what is expected of him/her. Once you have a solid foundation just keep training and training and having fun!
We make everything we do with our dogs a fun opportunity to train whether its a run on the beach, a walk in the park or actual training sessions.
Hi Lynda,
Thanks for the advice! I’m already planning on what puppy and obedience/agility classes I am going to take the puppy to. I have my Papillon up to fifth level in CPE and hope to get her CATCH this year, so I have a great relationship with two training facilities. My husband does not do any training, but plans to work with the puppy and take classes as well. He is interested in nosework and tracking. We are going to have a lot of fun! Good luck with future shows with Aiden!
Jennifer
AWESOME, …Ditto on Andrea and Julie!! I am sooooo proud of you guys. Aiden looks so comfortable and confident, what a good boy! Lynda, I just love that shot of the two of you with the ribbons…it is beautiful:)
Holy Cow!!!! Who stole your puppy and replaced him with a show dog. Congrats. His focus is amazing for his age.
