Today was our regular training day. We started at 6:30am with tracking. Both Dylan and Aiden were a little scatter brained at first but then settled right in and had good tracks. We moved to our training field for obedience and protection.
As you can tell from the silly hat it was kind of cold this morning!
The long recall
For first time, this week we tried the long down.
Waiting for the big, bad guy – AKA Mario
Yesterday (11/20/12) the A Litter (Ypsilon x Maika) turned 7 months old.
Happy Thanksgiving to all the AT Family.
Happy Thanksgiving Jack and Lynda!
Aiden’s obedience is really coming along nicely. Ava hasn’t even learned the concept of a stay yet, let alone doing the long down. Impressive work Lynda!
Thank you Julie.
He looks great. Will you do AKC OB at the same time w/him or concentrate on the protection work? Hope Aiden and Dylan has some nice leftover turkey treats yesterday.
We have mainly been consentrating on IPO style obedience (and tracking/protection) but will be doing AKC obedience also at some point. I really want to get the “German” type heeling with Aiden if I can even though that might be points off in AKC.
In January Aiden and I will be going to an “Obedience for Agility” class (a beginner agility class-no weaves, high jumping etc).
Schutzhund-style heeling in the AKC Obedience ring??? Watch out you will be accused of having cheese in your hair!
What is the difference between Sch heeling and AKC? I have been advised to train AKC OB b/c it is more precise, and Sch style tracking if I am going to do both types of sport.
Schutzhund obedience the dog is suppose to demonstrate a clear bond with the handler and a free-spirit. The dog is suppose to look like it wants to be working with the handler and is happy to do so. Sometimes this happiness results in bumping or touching of the handler and depending on the judge they could hit you with point deductions each time the dog bumps you. This is the only area I would say someone could call schutzhund heeling less precise…because of the possible bumping. Other then that I would not say it is less precise. I prefer the happy exuberant style of schutzhund obedience. So while some AKC judges would be horrified by the free-spirit, alternately a schutzhund judge would be horrified by a lack-luster, bored dog no matter how precise.
your boy looks great! I like the heeling pic best.
obedience for agility sounds like fun. hopefully we will see pics of that too!
@ Julie-interesting-that is the same explanation I was given for learning AKC. I was warned however about the bumping and touching for point deductions. Happily we are training for the “happy heeling”
Good! I predict she will be a wonderful obedience dog for you with super heeling…its in the blood. 🙂
I can’t pick a favorite pic..they are ALL awesome! Aiden has such great enthusiasm, but where the heck did the puppy go??? Wow, they grow up so fast. Thanks for the updates Lynda.
