My friend Donna has a great tip for reading a stubborn microchip! At the trial on Sunday, Rita’s dog got scanned repeatedly, probably 20 minutes with no luck even though she’s already shown the dog so the chip is there. Unfortunately if you cannot read the chip the dog cannot trial, or you have to get a new chip right there. Donna had recently imported a bitch from Europe and had trouble finding the chip but discovered that after running a magnet over the dog, the chip scanned. She got a magnet and rubbed it on Rita’s dog and sure enough the chip scanned within seconds!
That is an awesome tip! Thank you!
I shared this somewhere else and someone who understands how these chips work said this is true. It’s the same thing that happens with a transponder/iPass. About a mile out from a tollbooth, the transponder gets activated so that it can be read as you pass through the tollbooth. Normally the chip scanner would “wake up” the chip but a magnet will do the same thing, sometimes with better results.
This is GREAT. Thank you so much. We could not find the chip the first time but are taking him back in on Monday for another check up. I will bring a magnet.
