Three weeks ago while at training Mario suggested we enter Dylan in an upcoming trial for his BH. He wanted Dylan to have a BH so he can compete in IPO tracking in the future. I thought Mario was crazy. Dylan is a “sporting dog” not a “working dog”. Dylan has a Utility Dog (UD) Title which he earned in 2008 but has not done obedience since then. Jack, who is not the one who has to be out on the field in front of everyone, thought it was a great idea. I contacted the Federation American BullDog Club (the only club that was willing to issue a score book to Dylan) and was able to get a score book in time for the trial.
Today at the Baystate Working Dog Club Trial, under FCI Judge Kristiaan De Sweemer, Dylan passed his BH.
Here is the video of the obedience routine.
Temperament testing in the crowd

Walking down the road in traffic
Getting ready to pass another dog and crowd of people including children
I’m so proud of my Dylan!!!

Way to go, Dylan!
NICE!! That is so awesome! Dylan is such a great boy! Congrats!!
Oh my gosh! This put a great big smile on my face. Just love it. You rock girl! And of course so does Jack and Dylan!
Dylan is looking better then ever!
AWESOME! This put a huge smile on my face too! Love that Dylan, what a good role model for Aiden.
You both did an awesome job! Way to go and congratulations.
Congratulations!
What an accomplishment in such a short time period.
He is such a happy dog… he was wagging his tail the entire test time. Loved it!
woo hoo! Yay for Dylan!
That is a LOT of heeling! too much for my short attention span.
I agree the BH is way too much heeling for my liking, but you gotta do it to pass.
Way too much heeling for me and Dylan too. You can see in the video that Dylan starts off well but slows down and turns wider as the heeling pattern goes on!
I’m used to a short heeling pattern where the judge tells you when to turn, when to go fast, when to halt etc. Took me a while to get used to doing the heeling pattern on my own!
I just watched the video, very, very nice Lynda. Did you teach him the German style about turns just for the BH?
In 2007 I did Rally Obedience with Dylan and they have to go around you that way sometimes. I had to give him a quick refresher course!
There is also a “moving down” in Rally but I had not done the “sit out of motion” with Dylan before. The new rules with the “pause” made it easier to teach him that in a short period of time.
Dylan is such a rock star. Way to go!
Really cool! Congrats!
Any breed can get a USCA scorebook, but you might have to be a member I’m not sure.
Thanks Lies. It was fun doing the BH with a Labrador Retriever.
You are correct. The USCA will issue a score book to any breed if you are a USCA member. However, in order to join you have to sign that “I am not a member of any competing German Shepherd Dog organization situated in the United States of America”.
I am a member of the GSDCA-WDA so could not join. Jack called and spoke to them as he was going to join so we could get the score book but they would not let him as he is a member of the GSDCA.
The Federation American Bull Dog let us join (at a much more reasonable price) just so we could get the score book. They were super nice and even rushed the application through so we could get the score book before the trial.
USCA needs to change that stupid rule.
Dylan will need to become the official AT puppy mentor-he can teach them all good habits!
What a dog! And now he will proceed to get all his IPO tracking titles. You are going to run out of space on his business cards.
Yea, Dylan! “Jack, who is not the one who has to be out on the field in front of everyone, thought it was a great idea”. haha. And yea for you Lynda, to take your sporting dog to a working dog club trial and be out walking with those dobermans and shepherds I see. Dylan’s too nice a boy to be limited to just one group. 🙂 I hear lots of these GSD’s must think they belong in the toy group, the way they like to sit on your lap.
Congratulations Lynda and Dylan. By the looks of uber competant and cool Mr Dylan I doubt there is nothing he cannot accomplish with you at the end of his lead!
