Not Al and Karen’s Kapone. The real Capone. Al Scarface Capone the organized-crime boss, mobster, gangster, murderer, etc., etc. who evaded punishment for his crimes but was finally brought down by the IRS for tax evasion. A loosely similar, although not as lethal, events have transpired with the German SV National Breed Warden Reinhard Meyer. For decades the rumors of corruption involving National Breed Warden Reinhard Meyer have flourished. Many good people have suffered in their attempts to expose his wrong doings (alleged wrong doings). Only days before this year’s Sieger show Meyer was removed from his position with the SV after being arrested and convicted of tax evasion by the Finanzamt, the German equivalent to the IRS.
Well-respected SV judge Rüider Mai was tapped to replace Meyer as judge of the male working dog class at the 2012 BSZS in Ulm. The big question left hanging was, who would take Meyers place as breed warden?
Announced today the new acting SV National Breed Warden is Wilfried Scheld. Scheld is a champion of the GSD as a working dog, especially the GSD as a herding dog. Scheld was mentored by Karl Füller (Kirschental). He also has a good eye for the GSD and is widely respected as a knowledgeable and fair judge. Scheld is licensed to judge Conformation, HGH trials, and Breed Surveys. What makes him an interesting selection is that he seems disconnected from the politics of the GSD show-world. His dedication to the welfare of the GSD breed is sincere.
