People ask me all the time how I have the time and energy to train a working dog. We like to make them think it’s such hard work and we spend *all* our time together training our butts off. But in reality……
…does this look like a dog that is titled in tracking, obedience, protection, conformation, agility, dock diving, lure coursing, flyball, Canine Good Citizen, and temperament tested?!? For a working dog, Nikon sure does a lot of lying around!
This past weekend my sister brought over Coke’s girlfriend Lola so we had a German duo. My sister takes care of Lola a lot and also takes care of Nikon and Coke when I have to leave them home for a weekend.

Here, Nikon is doing his best “not amused” McKayla Maroney face because flyball was cancelled tonight. We pulled up to find everyone standing in the parking lot. Apparently the boarding dogs all got kennel cough so we went home rather than enter the building.
Tomorrow Nikon is coming to work with me. He has a new “job” coming to work and going on walks around campus with a friend who is scared of GSDs. Then we have a flyball tournament this weekend. Hopefully Nikon will earn his second and maybe third flyball title. Right now Nikon is ranked the 24th U-Fli GSD (points-wise that is; Pan has blown everyone away time-wise) but that’s only after *one* day of racing. At our last tournament there was a medical emergency and we all left early as a team. In November we are doing a breed survey. It’s taken forever since it’s hard to find one that will accept OFAs and isn’t too far to drive. I’d like to show Nikon at the UKC classic in December if his coat ever comes back.
Great photos Lies! The one of his “not amused” look is priceless. He’s such a handsome boy!
Love the photo’s.
How great to be able take your boy to work with you. I would be much happier at work if I could bring Fred with me!!!!!
Well he can’t come *in* to work with me, but they can’t tell me what I can or cannot have in my own vehicle 😉
I used to sneak him in for short visits on occasion but I have a co-worker who has severe allergies and is now undergoing chemo for a disease so we’re super careful about what/who comes in and out of our area during his treatment.
A good working dog knows when to turn it off! Lola is very cute and that pout-face Nikon has going-on is pretty serious. 🙂
Lies, this is so funny.
I love the way he hords his toys in the 3rd picture… or, is it you hording it for him? 🙂
He is a very-very handsome boy & Lola is truly a nice match to him.
Yes, that last picture will be so befitting on a calendar.
That would be me, but he knows they are there and goes there to get them. I have foster puppies so I typically transition them from crate/pen to that den room because I can easily keep track of them and see them. That’s why the little dog bed and all the toys are there. Nikon lays there because that is the biggest AC vent in the house, not that it matters anymore.
Now that’s one handsome couch potato!
Nikon has the perfect working dog temperament. No sense being all fired up constantly when you’re just chillin’ in the house.
I wish Roman would lay down at some point during the day. He’s “on” all the time!!
