Before you can trial in any IPO events, you need a scorebook. I wrote this out for some of our Topline members who were not sure about the process. For those of you considering your trialing options with your dog, I encourage you to consider IPO. Yes, it is expensive and time consuming but the rewards are also great.
To get a WDA scorebook, here are your options:
Scorebook cost is $20.00 for non-WDA members and $15.00 for WDA members. Here is the link to the form:
http://gsdca-wda.org/forms/SCOREBOOK%20APPLICATION%20rev%20071109.pdf
When you look at the form you will note it requires a 4 generation certified pedigree for all registered GSDs. You may wonder why. This requirement is in place to identify the dogs trialing. You have two options here. Note: Option two is easier and cheaper.
Option One: Order a 4 generation pedigree from AKC; cost is $32.00. You also need to print out the microchip/tattoo certification form (http://www.gsdca-wda.org/forms/APPLICATION%20FOR%20TATTOO-MICROCHIP%20CERTIFICATION%20rev%20082608.pdf) and have your vet verify your dogs identification (most vets do this free of charge) verified. You then send the original 4 generation pedigree and the tattoo/microchip verification form along with $15.00 (check or credit card) to the WDA office. You can also send them the WDA scorebook application at the same time. The WDA office will enter your dog’s identification (either microchip or tattoo) on the original, add their seal and send the original back to you along with your scorebook.
Option Two: Take the microchip/tattoo form (http://www.gsdca-wda.org/forms/APPLICATION%20FOR%20TATTOO-MICROCHIP%20CERTIFICATION%20rev%20082608.pdf) to your vet and have your dog’s identification verified as above. Send in the form along with the scorebook application to the WDA. You will check the unregistered option. This will only cost you the scorebook fee ($15 for WDA members – $20 for non-WDA members).
Note: Option Two is a cheaper option for those who do not plan to breed or show in conformation and if at any time you wish to switch your scorebook out to one for a registered dog, you only need to follow the procedure for a certified pedigree and mail to the WDA Office and they will transfer all your titles to your new scorebook.
Thanks for the info, Irene.
You rock Irene, thank you!
