The weather has been hot and not many trials happen here in the summer. This weekend was all new for Singer. He trailed for the first time in the open field B Course in AKC as well as moving up in class to the intermediate A Course. Saturday we started off with B Course. The winner for the started class, a Border Collie, scored 93. Singer scored a 92 for a tie for second. The tie is broken on the outrun score. This is Singer’s weakest element so he lost the tie breaker and took third place. Still not bad for his first time and only one point from first. The best was the judges comment when giving out awards. He said, ” This dog, Singer, had the best drive panels of all dogs in all classes.” Next it was on to A Course Intermediate. Singer stepped up and took first place winning the class with a score of 88.5. Sunday it was back to B Course. The course was flipped in a direction we have not done before. Singer again had trouble on his outrun but had a great recovery and finished first and winning the class with a score of 90.5. Back to A Course. Again Singer was weak on his out run losing most his points there. Still he scored a 90 finishing first and winning the class. The score was actually a tie. The tie on A Course is broken on the cross drive. Singer had a better cross and won the class. Not bad for a weekend. Three first and a third that was only one point from first on a tie breaker and three class wins. Singer must still qualify once more in each class to earn the titles as it takes three qualifying runs under different judges to title.
Here are some photos of Singer on A Course. It shows his fetch to the handlers post and his drive away to the Y chute and Z chute. The drive to the Y and Z are done by the dog on commands only. The handler must remain at the handlers post.
