Congratulations! Nikon is really coming into his prime right now, isn’t he? What a great job you’ve done with him, Lies.
Random question: Do you still use the Precision Pet suitcase crate at home and on the road? Does it have sharp edges? I ask because I use a Kennel Aire suitcase crate, and the edges are really sharp and snag/cut things when I set it up.
Yep, still use it daily. It’s Nikon’s crate in my van (today we had SIX dogs and THREE people going to the show and back!). I’m not sure if it’s sharp, I guess some of the edges might be but since I have a minivan and his crate is on a wooden platform so it’s level with the plastic/hard part of the interior (not touching carpet or upholstery) I don’t have any problems. I can’t live without this crate though. I have two side by side in the back and they don’t actually slide in/out unless one of them goes in flat at an angle and then pops into place. Also if I’m using my husband’s kayak I can just pop the crate down flat and slide the kayak on top of it rather than have to pull everything out. The only complaint I have about this crate is that a dog that bites or digs can get it open fairly easily but to prevent that (even though Nikon does neither and is calm in a crate) I use a clasp or bungee cord to ensure it stays shut. I know they did Total Dog Sat, not sure about today, not going anywhere b/c of Mother’s Day. IMO the first judge just had a preference and it was not Nikon. Also he didn’t like Nikon’s “tag ear” but I think he was looking for an excuse not to place him since I’ve seen a GSD win BIS missing a piece of the ear. He put up dogs that were a totally different type than Nikon so it was no surprise. In my opinion Nikon showed really well, maybe the best we’ve ever shown for the first show but he wasn’t the preferred type. The second judge I felt more thoroughly went over each dog (literally, with her hands). She also had us go around more times, and for breed we went around multiple times in a row. The rings at this show were bigger than most and not slippery so I actually had fun showing and letting Nikon go fast and move rather than trying not to slip and having to choke him back. I’m not really sure what that judge saw in Nikon that she liked, maybe it was temperament. He was very calm and confident as opposed to the dog behind him that had its tail totally glued between the legs and kept looking at the handler like s/he was torturing the dog. No offense but if I were judge/queen of the world I’d just plain excuse dogs, GERMAN SHEPHERDS, that acted like that in the ring especially ones with a CH (not talking about a Novice Puppy with no ring experience). Nikon probably has the least ring experience and he acts like he owns the place.

Woo Hoo! Way to go, Nikon!
Awesome job! Congrats.
Congratulations!!! Nikon is growing up!
Were they doing Total Dog today?
Do you think the judges are judging differently now that they re-vamped the UKC standard for GSD?
