We entered Rally Novice A and Novice A obedience at the Medina Kennel Club this past weekend. Rally was first up and Roman did great. The points we lost were actually due to my errors. He took 1st place 🙂 A few hours later was Novice Obedience. He did great fussing on and off leash, and a perfect stand for exam. He executed a flawless come on recall with a perfect front, except that I didn’t call him. Ugh. Next on the figure 8, which he is usually great, he decided to stop and scratch himself…twice! Finally, we went out for the long sit and down. On the way to our positions, two other dogs started barking at each other. Roman decided he needed to chime in and all of us were excused and had to do the walk of shame out of the ring. Roman can nail his long sits and downs, but oh well. I seriously have so much respect for Lynda and Ivan and all the hard work that they do. Obedience can be a very humbling experience. We had a great time, however, and need to work extra hard. I was very proud of Roman’s work and considering he was in a new environment and all the distraction, he did really well. Sorry for the stamp on the pic. I don’t have the original pic, yet.
Way to go Rita and Roman!!!! Woooo wooo! Novice A means this is the first time the human part of the team has ever competed. To go in the ring your first time ever in your first event and get first place is just super. I think was barking at those other dogs to tell them to shut up! Man he has an enormous head!
I like to think he was telling them to shut up because he needed to concentrate. Roman has a big Gorby head with Kira colors. The trial was sponsored by the GSD club of Northern Ohio and I received tons of compliments on Roman. He for sure took number 1 in the handsome catagory 🙂
Great job! 1st show, 1st place… sounds like a win to me!
Woot, woot, woot! Way to go, Rita & Roman! Excellent job. No big deal on his antics. He did not want to embarrass the other dogs by completely kicking everyone’s butt. From Roman’s big smile I’d say that he knew he did good!
Congratulations Rita and Roman. Rally is not easy with a large breed dog. Way to go on your first time ever and a 1st place.
Sometimes our dogs are just so smart they know what we want them to do next. Roman was trying to save you the trouble of calling him during the recall. LOL!
He’s such a handsome boy.
Way to go Rita & Roman!! How exciting!
Congratulations, Rita! Great work. Roman is so awesome, you should both be so proud. We are light years away from any serious competition with Dutch, but even now I can relate to the challenges you faced. Roman could be flawless in his normal environments, but with the distractions you faced together, his performance was astounding!
We constantly add distractions, distance, and duration into Dutch’s training, and often it seems like we are starting all over. This is most problematic with the distraction of new people and other dogs.
