Love it!! I had to Tape up my shepherds ears as well. I tried the hair roller trick too. I also tried many other things, cardboard toilet/paper towel roles, cardboard tampon applicators, I even ordered something off the internet, and they finally stood up. Sometimes they just need a little help from us. HEHE, If they knew how silly they looked during the process they would just kill us!!

Brian, you did an excellent job with ear taping! It’s good that you have him chewing on something. All of that gnawing will help work those ear muscles. Try bully sticks—the dogs love them! Antlers are great too and last a very long time.
There are other things on the market for setting ears, but for GSDs the foam rollers work the best.
I am learning something new here! I didn’t know that sometimes ear taping is recommended. When is this necessary? At what age do you decide that the ears need a little help? I can see that Vander’s right ear is folded in that first picture. I thought ears go all over the place before they eventually stand up and look great.
HI Beverly, the ears do all sorts of crazy things, especially when they are teething. The V litter has big heavy ears so a little “taping” is a good idea.

Thanks, Julie!
Of course they have big ears. “All the better to hear you, Little Red Riding Hood,” said the big bad wolf!

Kristin was my trusty partner in this endeavor. If anyone can tape their puppy’s ears without assistance, I give them my utmost respect!
Just as an update…
We re-taped his ears today and they pretty much stood up on their own. His ears are HUGE! I think he must be able hear a mouse walking at 100 yards. 🙂
We’re going to keep them taped until the weekend and see how they are doing. But he is now more comfortable/used to the tape, so I think things are progressing well all around.

He is such a cutie! It was fun to watch all the puppies work last weekend.
