Dylan is recovering well and was able to travel with us to New Hampshire. We left the Cape late yesterday morning and got to Manchester early enough to take Ivan and Dylan for a nice walk along the Piscataquog River. We had a great time. This continues to be a strange winter and it was in the upper 4o’s and sunny.
Today Ivan was entered in the Eastern English Springer Spaniel Club Agility Trial.
Ivan’s first class was Novice B FAST. He got 68 points but ran over the course time and ended up 7 seconds over for an adjusted score of 61 points. Ivan qualified with a 2nd place for his 3rd Leg and Novice FAST Title (NF).
As Ivan earned his Novice Standard Agility Title last weekend I moved him up into Open Standard Agility. In his Standard run he missed the weave pole entry costing him 5 points but he qualified with a score of 95 for a 1st place and his 1st Leg. He was the only dog in his height division to qualify on a relatively tough course.
His last class of the day was Novice B Jumpers with Weaves. He needs one leg for his Novice JWW Title and he seemed up and ready to go but such was not the case! On a course that I thought was very fair and doable he knocked the second jump and crashed into jump #11 and therefore did not qualify.
Such handsome boys!! Is it just me or is Ivan getting redder? He is filling out nicely, what a hunk!
Nice to see Mr. Dylan looking so happy again!!
Both boys look fabulous! I hope that Dylan is permanently back to good health. I really enjoy your agility videos. Go Team Ivan!
Great photos! I am very glad to hear that Dylan is doing well!
I just want to kiss him in that last photo! Ivan reminds me of myself when it comes to test taking I would ace the really hard ones and do terrible on the easy one. Do you find that is the norm that dogs will sail through either standard or jumpers and take a little longer on the other?
Yes, it does seem that way. Dylan is a prime example. He was in Excellent Standard before he got his Novice Jumpers Title. He was very good on his contacts and liked to take a rest on the table. In jumpers he just didn’t seem to have enough stamina until he matured a little more. He was always on course but managed to knock just ONE bar!
Did he knock it with his tail ?
No, Dylan does not have quite such a long dangerous tail as Ivan. Dylan knocked the bars with his lazy feet!
Could these two get any more handsome…Wow! So very happy to see Dylan back to his happy self. You guys are awesome, thanks for sharing!
yep…definitely the tail knocking those bars. I was told about someone with a GSD that is planning on cutting off their dogs tail so it won’t knock any more bars. I hope its a joke. They use their tail like a rudder and to balance.
I also hope the GSD tail docking is a joke.
Regarding Ivan’s tail knocking the bar, you are right he seemed to drop his tail as he turned to the left. We had him to the vet last week for his routine exam (91.6 lbs) and the vet was joking with us that he certainly is a BIG boy and maybe needs a special cup to prevent “them” from knocking a bar!
LOL, a GSD cup?! That would be even more ridiculous than wearing purple underwear!
Ivan and Dylan are such good boys. Whenever I see your pictures, I want to hug both of their good, goofy necks.
SNORT!!!! Your vet has a good sense of humor!
Very nice handling on the standard, especially off the teeter to the next jump. Not that I am expert but it seemed very well thought out on your part the way you handled it. I watched several times cannot figure out what caused him to go past the weave pole entry?
I know Ivan needs more work on his weave pole entries but when we watched the video it appears that he went to investigate why the “number” sign was to the right of the poles. He is too observant…like Jack!
Well he is Jack’s dog so you know how dogs-owners take after each other. SO Ivan had to point out to the course setters ” hey you dummies you left a number over here.”
“dogs-owners take after each other”
ahem.. is this why Koda is such a goof? He thinks everything around him is a big fat joke and must be made fun of. lol
