The original diagnosis of infection from Grass Seed Awn is suspect. In October when we had Dylan in for surgery with this vet at an animal hospital off Cape he found fragments of roots from two teeth that had been removed in July at another vet hospital. He removed those and cleaned the abscess. Since then the abscess has returned once before this incident which we treated with antibiotics.
A week ago the swelling started again and we made an appointment to see the same surgeon. Over the weekend the abscess broke and started draining on its own. The scheduled appointment was for today which we kept. The vet was pleased that the abscess broke and drained on its own without antibiotics. He feels that Dylan’s body is fighting whatever may still be wrong on its own. Back in October he had told us that Dylan had another tooth that needed to come out. We decided to have that tooth taken out today and have the vet flush out what remained of the abscess. He put a drain in that will stay in for a few days.
Dylan is now home and feeling very sorry for himself but getting lots of love and care. Hopefully this is the end of this nightmare.
Poor Dylan! He’s had a very painful and extended recovery process since last summer. If not foxtail, I wonder what triggered this?
You and Jack are really good to be so vigilant about his health. He is getting lots of love for sure. I hope he is on the road to recovery once and for all!
I sure hope this is the end of it for all of you! You’ve had more than your share with this situation.
I’m glad things are starting to look on the brighter side a little bit, let’s keep it moving that direction. Yoou guys are in our prayers.
Sending my best wishes and prayers out for Dylan. Seeing his photos and reading of his accomplishments and adventures always has brought a smile to my face. I hope that he has a full, complete and speedy recovery.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery, Dylan! Extra hugs and petting for you!
