I was at a dog seminar this weekend at The Well-Mannered Dog. This place is fantastic, Grand Rapids people you are so fortunate. They have daycare, boarding, classes, and competitions. I talked to the owner who was retired and decided to open this place. She and many of the employees are older with decades of dog experience. They are setup to handle all types of dogs including in-tact dogs and competition dogs into boarding and daycare. The facility is staffed 24/7. They have a schutzhund club that meets and trains there, flyball, agility, and obedience. VERY, very nice. I wish I lived closer. The fact that this is owned and operated by an experienced-seasoned dog person buts it into a class by itself.
Back on the home front, before heading up to the seminar, Monica spent the night. As you can see Gavin the traitor had to sleep with Monica. I went to bed and closed my door with Funny and Gavin inside the bedroom, Gavin was pacing back and forth and I finally had to get up and let him out so he could go sleep with Monica. Rotten dog. Funny stayed with me. In the morning she was right there next to my bed on the floor so that she was the first thing I saw when I swung my legs out of bed, and she gave me that look that said, “see, who loves you the most?” Then as we were getting ready to leave, Monica goes out the garage door to load up the vehicle, I hold Gavin back because he is wanting to follow her, what does he do, he screams. He screamed so loud, Monica opened the door back up and asked what happened to him. Nothing, he just wanted to be with Monica. Rotten, rotten dog.
Here is the traitor on Monica’s bed:
LOL! Traitor! I have a Chihuahua that INSISTS on sleeping with my guests, kicks me to the curb. 🙁
Kira and Maika are also like this. Allie not as much.
I live less than 5 miles away and didn;t know about this place. How long have they been there, did they say?
Less than a year. This is where we do flyball, though I don’t think they offer flyball (I just train with a team that uses the facility).
You have to check it out Karen!
Gavin is such aa goofy boy, he knew how to get his way! LOLOLOL Funny is so loyal Julie, I love her. I can sooo picture having that expression in the morning LOL
My dogs don’t go and sleep with the guests, however Sabree will position herself where she can watch both rooms one upstairs and one on main floor so she sleeps at the bottom of the steps. Always protecting our loved ones that come and stay.
Wow, what a great facility! I would love to own and operate something like this :~)
Gavin, snicker :~) such a boy dog! They sure know how to work it …
I wish we had a facility like this near where we are. It sounds great. There is no indoor training facility close to us. When I win the lottery…..
Oh, yeah … that lottery thing :~)
LOL, too funny! Monica does have a way with dogs.
What a nice facility! How was the seminar?
boring….. but the company I was with was delightful
Yes, a truly rotten dog! LOL Reminds me of our Lab, always sneaking into the guests’ bedrooms at night, the traitor.
Sounds like a great experience, Julie! What did you learn about intact dogs?
Most dog-daycare and boarding places will not take dogs unless they are neutered or spayed. Making it difficult for those of us that want to keep our dogs “in-tact” to find boarding or daycare.
Yes, I experienced that issue with our previous in-tact GSD. His in-tact’s were eventually un-tacted so the boarding situation became less of an issue. For the record, that is not why he was un-tacted though.
What SchH club trains there? My SDA club was given the option of using the facility but we’ve never gone there yet.
She did not remember the name of the club.
Beaumont, our 11 year old Lab, is intact. We rarely board him, on the occasions we have, no one has ever mentioned anything about it to us. Is it only an issue with certain breeds (breed prejudice)? Perhaps it was on some paperwork I never read. I wonder if they’ll bring it up with Dutch.
