Very Don’t beat yourself up, your doing great. He is learning what the behavior is even though you made mistakes he didn’t seem to notice, he did as you wanted. Smart Boy!! You guys are a great team.
I woke up this morning and Batty’s bath picture popped into my head and I actually LOL. He was hating life for a few minutes. LOL Thanks for the entertainment.
That’s great. What is important is you can see what you need to do different and you know what to do. When he is not working and he is staring at you, are you looking at him or at the object you want him to focus on? Possibly you are getting the laying down because you are putting the treat on the tub, if you deliver the treat directly to him you will help reinforce the standing position. Click for behavior and reward for position. Mark “yes” what you liked but how you deliver the treat is also a part of the equation. If you want both feet on the tub get that behavior marked and the treat delivered to him while he is still standing and both feet are still on the tub. If you are not quick enough and the feet come off before the treat is delivered make some kind of sound to mark that he lost the reward. Like oops and/or a change in body language and of course no treat.
Being excited and celebrating with extra “yes”s and treats makes it more fun for both of you.
Thanks, guys! He is so smart, and so fun to train. I really recommend taping yourself if you can — it’s so hard to tell if you’re doing something wrong while you’re in the moment, and you become much more aware as a result.
I love this little guy. Even though he’s figured out how to open (locked) bathroom doors from the outside already.

Batman is extremely smart and loves any kind of thinking game. As you’ve already discovered he is a puzzle solver. Now stop hiding in the bathroom! 😉

Follow what Julie said and you won’t go wrong!
