Monica and Verdae 3 months (V-litter Rocco x Cadence) working at agility foundation work
And along come cousin Max ( U-litter Gavin x Zucca) 4 months
Hey whacha you guys do’in?
I really think I can do this too…..
I love how Verdae just keeps on working and ignores Max. Max had that same attitude you see from Gavin, he sees and he wants to do it too.
Adorable! I want to do this type of work for Batty. Julie, what kind of equipment is Monica using here? Is it something I can make or buy?
Jennie,
We made Ivan a travel plank when he was a puppy. You can also use a board on a low brick/block once they get the hang of it. It is important to teach large breed dogs “rear end awareness” so they think where they are putting their rear legs. Another good thing is a ladder on the ground. Teach Batman to walk between the ladder rungs and eventually to do it while backing up.
We also made a wobble board out of a square piece of plywood with an extra large tennis ball underneath and it worked well.
Have fun training the Batman!
thanks, Lynda! I’d better start some of this now. He’s already 46 lbs and growing by the day.
The yellow and white board is called a travel plank. A friend made these for me, I will give you the measurement. The yellow is painted with sand in it for traction. The red discs are balance disks you can get from an exercise place or physical rehab. I also like to use the balance discs to teach a good sit. They cannot do a rock-back sit on the discs they have to do a tuck sit.
Monica first had him go over the travel plank, actually they do it in my living room all the time before they are very old. Monica then added the balance disk to make it like a mini-teeter. The time to get them use to moving things is when they are very young. another thing that helps is a wobble board you can buy one or you can make your own. Carole made some for me out of scrap pieces of plywood witha toilet flange glued onteh bottom. Here is a fancier one:
Monkey see, Monkey gootta do!! Great attitudes on both of their parts.
Batman has been on the planks, wobble board and the balance disks, so it will be easy to continue the routine.
