My bond with Sabree started when she was little, and there are just too many things to list that she has done through me being down with surgery to her watching out for the kids and misc. other things. Suffice it to say that she and I have a very tight bond, she has earned and gained my respect and confidence over and over again. I wasn’t sure I should share this so I sent it to Julie, and she said I should share it, so here it is.
The other night while I was sleeping, I remember waking up and choking, but I coughed a few times and went back to sleep. I think it happened the next night also.
The other morning, Sabree stood up to the side of the bed and scratched my arm which is not like her. She gets on the bed and sleeps but she scratched me and drew blood which I didn’t realize til I got up later. When I finally woke up Sabree was laying so close her nose was almost in my ear. Also not like her, she usually lays at the end of the bed. Once I got up and got my wits about me I called Al and told him about her scratching me, and laying so close to me. That’s when he told me I had quit breathing the other night and had woke up choking, I just thought I choked, no big deal. He thinks that Sabree sensed something was wrong, like maybe I quit breathing again and she woke me up. She just continues to amaze me and our bond just keeps growing even more, she is a very special girl and you have heard me say before that Sabree saved my life…well maybe in more ways than one now.
Karen, thank you for sharing your story. These dogs are true “shepherds” always looking out for us.
I’m so glad that you shared this story with all of us, Karen. Julie said it well: they are always looking out for us–always ready to help, to be aware, to let us know if something doesn’t seem right. And although they appreciate every little bit we do for them, it’s as though they expect nothing. Good girl, Sabree. And great job, Julie, as well as every one of your helpers, for all you do to help our dogs be so incredibly special.
Great job, Sabree. It’s amazing the bond that we share with our shepherds 🙂
Good girl Sabree, you are very special. Karen, I hope all is well with you.
Thank you everyone. They are watching and aware even when we are not!
I have to say my bond with Kapone is tight also, but he is a big goofy guy.
Just an example: At night he lays in our hallway until I get ready to go to bed. When he knows I am shutting things off and getting ready for bed, he runs upstairs and gets on the bed..In my spot.. of course. When I tell him to get down he does this thing with his ears that is about the equivalent of wrapping his eyes around the back of his head..without turning his head to let me know he hears me tell him, to get down. So then when he hears this he sprawls out and takes up as much of the bed as he can. So last night same routine, but I get upstairs and didn’t turn on the light and Sabree was laying IN my bed, Under the Covers with her HEAD on MY Pillow. So I told her to get down, with no response..and she always moves. Yep..IT WAS KAPONE!!!! He is such a goofy boy, I accused Al of putting him under there but Al was sound asleep. So he did this on his own.
This all was after I walked into the kitchen after Al went to bed, and he was standing up to the sink doing his version of dishes!!!All I could think of is all he needs is an apron! LOLOLOL Today he stole the wooden spoon I had at the back of the cupboard to stir my crock pot of Chili, David chased him down and got it back, so I had him put it in the sink, yep a little while later I hear this chewing..Yep it;s the spoon…destroyed!!
You know, I wouldn’t change it for the world!
Good girl Sabree. Love your Kapone stories too.
I don’t know how anyone can live without pets. They get hair everywhere and drive us crazy at times…but I would never be without them!
I hope you are doing well Karen.
That you for sharing your story, Karen. Sabree is a great guardian and K-Pony is the comic relief! Both are a good thing. Miss you, Karen! Heck, I almost miss Al. 😉
