My Oh My Pumpkin Pie Pixies
Whisk the following together in a bowl:
1 – 15 Ounce Can Pumpkin (without spices included)
1 – Egg
¼th Cup Chicken Broth
1 Tablespoon Honey
1 Tablespoon Olive Oil (or vegetable oil)
1/32 teaspoon or pinch Cinnamon (optional)
1/32 teaspoon or pinch of Ginger (optional)
1/32 teaspoon or pinch of Cloves (optional)
TO THE ABOVE:
Add 3 Cups Rye Flour, ½ cup at a time, mixing well with a wooden spoon after each addition.
Dough will be very stiff and hard to work.
Let it set for about 5 minutes.
Sprinkle, in a large circle, about ¼th Cup of Rye Flour on to the counter top and place dough on top of it.
Dip hands in flour, then pat dough down. Also rub some flour on your rolling pin.
Knead about 1 ½ additional cups of Rye Flour, a little at a time into the dough, turning over and adding more Rye Flour as needed to the surface to keep from sticking.
Roll dough out into a rectangle about 1/8th inch thick. Don’t worry about the cracked or uneven edges. They will just become unshaped cookies.
Cut strips about 1/2” wide with a butter knife, then, cut across to make them about the size of a dime. No ruler needed! Just cut and go!
325* for 20 minutes.
You’ll get over 500 little cookies cutting them in this fashion or 2 pounds of cookies for about $3! You can also cut these out with a cookie cutter for gifts!
If you have a grain sensitive dog, you can use a non-grain flour such as Amaranth or Arrowroot Flour, but you would have to adjust the amount of flour in the recipe.
Bone Appétit My Furry Friends!
Fabulous! I will definitely be baking these for Batman.
What??? There isn’t a box with all of this crap in it and I just add water?
Thank you, I will give this a shot. Once my little Batling leaves, Kayla and I will have plenty of time to experiment.
I just made the recipe up this morning…..Just for U!!!
Thank you, Karen. We will make these this week!
Let me know if the dog’s like them! 🙂
Are you trying to blow my mind….first rye flour, then chicken broth???? Oh these are for the dogs…duh!
If I go to the trouble of making cookies they had better be tasty enough for me to eat too!
Don’t forget to add some chocolate chips in it- for you.
Yummm—chicken juice and chocolate chips. I’d better use something that Kayla and I can share. That way there is no confusion when we are watching TV in bed. 😉
Oh crap, I forgot the chicken juice part> Well you can always omit that chicken juice for your supply of cookies.
I suspect you can substitute any flavored water for variety. A pizza cutter would work great for cutting the squares.
Bruce that is a brilliant idea!
Yes you could substitute liver water for the chicken water
Gonna make these for sure! Actually, I may munch on a few with a cup of coffee!
They are actually pretty simple, no blender or mixer just a little elbow grease and extra flour to keep from sticking! 🙂
You guys are all too funny!
I’ve been gone all day and just sat down to read these! LOL
Great idea Bruce!
You can actually just use water instead of the broth or even green tea! Any liquid will do. Now Carole, DO NOT use whiskey or gin…ok? Poor Kayla won’t remember if she is suppose to bite the sleeve or kiss it! 🙂
KAREN!! I can’t believe you would tell me no whiskey! How did you guess? My Grandmother’s pumpkin pie recipe calls for whiskey. It is the best pumpkin pie you’ve ever eaten. When I saw your recipe I thought, hmmmmm…….
Wait a minute…….with that addition…….maybe you’ll be kissing the bite sleeve! 😉
