MSNBC.com is reporting the FDA has received 353 reports of dog illness and or death related to Chicken Jerky Treats made in China. Last month, in my post, the FDA reported only 70 illnesses or deaths relating to the treats, but now, less than a month later the total is up to 353 deaths or illness! Feeding these types of treats may take a while to build up in their system to cause an adverse reaction, so PLEASE do not feed them!
If your pet has been effected in any way (decreased appetite; decreased activity; vomiting; diarrhea, sometimes with blood; increased water consumption and/or increased urination) please report to: Safety Reporting Portal http://www.fda.gov/AnimalVeterinary/SafetyHealth/ReportaProblem/ucm182403.htm
ALL this and no recalls OR brands named! PLEASE do not feed your “fur kids” ANY TYPE of meat jerky treats. We just don’t know!
Also note that “Iams” treats and products use ingredients from “World Suppliers” which include China. BEWARE!
That is a huge increase. Do not feed your dog anything from China.
My dogs love Iams puppy crack, er biscuits. I need something that we know is made in USA and nothing from China might slip into the ingredients.
Tanner has had diarrhea for a month and now anemic. His temp was 105, he was lethargic and not eating. We’re on third type of antibiotics. I got my first DQ turd yesterday – maybe it will be a good omen for the new year. He seems to be perking up with some interest in food.
In hind sight, it was Happy Hips. You buy them because they say – no hormones, no antibiotics, fillers, etc. Until you read the fine print on the back of the bag-CHINA. The one bag seemed strangely brittle – then powey – sick. He’s been tested for parasites, giardia – nothing just wall to wall bacteria. Of course the first thing you do is throw out the bag and all remnants. You need a lot of info to report it. I do have one unopened bag of duck breast-I will dig up the receipt on that one. Bad China.
Our treat of choice is EVO Wild Cravings “made in the USA” but like anything – ingredients could be sourced anywhere. You have to stop all other treats and make these the greatest. If there is a better choice, these aren’t first pick. The other is ZIWI – New Zealand. The best is just plain old cooked up burger!
PS – Great Germany pix
Oh, I am SO sorry! Happy Hips was on my list here last month.
Go to the health food store and buy some “Slippery Elm” and start with 2 capsules with his food. This should help firm up his stool. You can increase to 3 if need be. Also, if he is on antibiotics did your vet recommend “acidophilus” to replace some healthy bacteria in his gut? If not, get some of that too. Please let us know how he is.
THANK YOU! I am getting some pumpkin down and yogurt. I tried FortiFlora one day but seemed like it should be distinct from the ab’s. What is Tylan I don’t seem to understand this med?
Betsy
Tylan (Tylosin) is used for an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory and diarrhea.
Is it possible for you to change his food for several days? You would take boneless, skinless chicken breast, cut off all the fat and boil until done. Then you would make a 50/50 mix of shredded boiled chicken and pumpkin. A 40# dog would eat 1 cup of the mix every 6 hours. A 40# to 60# dog would eat 1 1/2 cups of the mix every 6 hours. Also, add bottled water to make sure he is getting enough liquids. This should firm up his stool and give him some good nourishment.
Please email me as I’d like to give you more info. Hang in there! 😉

Thanks. Somehow I missed some of this thread.

Have chicken and pumpkin.
Thanks.
If you’re looking for SAFE, REAL ‘American Made’ chicken jerky for dogs or cats, we started making our own Chicken Jerky for our 3 dogs after we ran across the FDA warning of 2008 about Chinese chicken treats making dogs sick or killing them. It turned into a cottage “Mom & Pop” business and we now sell our TriPom Chews online and in 20 stores in the New England area. Our products are the only homemade, handmade, ‘Maine Made’, ‘American Made’ Chicken Jerky produced from whole, restaurant-quality chicken breasts containing NO Additives and NO Preservatives. Our 3 Pomeranians (our babies!) taste test every batch for quality.
When we’re not making Jerky, we spend our time at events handing out fliers on the FDA warning about Chinese treats, speaking to anyone who will listen about the dangers, and advocating for a ban on all Chinese chicken treats.
Here’s the skinny AT Blogger’s!
I’ve checked the site, VERY cute Pom’s btw!!! Here’s the info for these treats. http://www.tripomchews.net/ They sound GREAT!
**”TriPom uses fresh, restaurant-quality, 100% USDA Grade “A”, whole chicken breasts.” The 100% USDA GRADE A, is HUGE, the REAL deal!!! You won’t see the “USDA grade A” on much of anything in the way of pet treats/food!
**”We’ve had a “Guaranteed Analysis” performed on each of our products. We’ve sent each of our products to a lab, Silliker Food Safety & Quality Solution”
**”Our products contain NO PRESERVATIVES! We do not use ANY preservatives, none. ”
**”The marinade for some of the chicken in our Combo Pack is organic Blackstrap molasses”
**”Flavors: “Our products are the only Maine Made™, ‘American Made’, Chicken Jerky produced from fresh, restaurant-quality, whole chicken breasts containing NO Additives and NO Preservatives.” Hand made by Ken and Autumn, former Chicago-in’s and now in Maine.
TriPom Chicken Jerky can be ordered Plain, or a Combo package which is half plain, half marinated.”
