Allie and I stayed in Offenbach Germany near Frankfurt. Throughout Germany you can find public land where you can walk, hike, or bike. Outside of Offenbach there was a large “nature park” that Allie and I enjoyed walking through. Curiously the woods were filled with these large bowl-shaped holes. They were fairly consistent in size and nearly perfect circles. They all had a raised rim around the outer edge, which you can sort of make out in the photos below. The heavy leaf cover made it hard to see the depth in a photograph, so Allie volunteered to help put some perspective into the photographs. After much discussion with various people the common thinking is these are bomb craters from WWII. Mos guesses American bombs since they look like 250 or 500 pound bombs. Also Americans bombed factory areas. Whereas British bombed with larger bombs and hit cities in retaliation for the Germans bombing their cities. Anyone with better or more accurate info please let me know.
Andy says it might be Howitzer shells.
I was hoping Andy would have some input. Mos suggested shell craters too,.
Holy craters! Thank you, Allie, for putting it into better perspective.
Is Allie hunting for mice?
