Those are wonderful! I wish my family had better preserved the memories of our farm and animals from the past.
Great pictures! I also enjoy old photos and the stories some of them tell!

My parents had their first GSD puppy (Duchess I) when my mother was pregnant with me! Nearly every childhood memory includes either Duchess I or Duchess II. Now, I am thrilled to announce that my husband Scott and I will soon be adding one of the little guys from the W-litter to our family here in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts!
Is that you in the first photo with dancing Duchess? That is priceless.
Congratulations on your puppy! Will she be Duchess III, perhaps?
My Batman is a Gavin son, and he’s a 12-week-old prodigy. Gavin makes awesome puppies! And of course there’s KIRA. Kira is a superstar in her own right. Those W-litter pups are going to be gorgeous Einstein workhorses by the look of it!
Oh, that reminds me: Julie, we need more pictures, puh-leeeaze.
We’ll be naming him “Dutch;” since we’re getting a boy.
We did an incredible amount of research before selecting Alta-Tollhaus. Now, after seeing what little powerhouses of potential these pups are, we are both thrilled and somewhat daunted by the responsibility, almost like expectant parents! Just seeing what your little Batman is already capable of is astounding. We’ve been reading books, blogs, online training forums and videos, hoping that our drive to train will be commensurate with his drive to work!
As eager as we are to start working with him, we’re even more excited about cuddling, snuggling, and loving our little bundle of joy and energy!
Oh, yes – that is me (back in the 60’s!!!).
Married 40 years now, Scott and I are now retired. We’ve owned Labrador retrievers all these years, and are now looking forward to our new adventures with Dutch and our 10+ year old Lab, Beaumont.
Hi Beverly,
Great pictures.
Welcome to the AT family. We did a lot of research before getting Ivan too, and we could not be more happy with our choice. I’m sure Dutch will love to work but will also love being a family companion!
Jack got his first GSD in 1960, a female named Dutchess, and has had a GSD ever since.
How interesting that you have a Labrador Retriever and are getting a GDS like us. The two breeds go well together. What color is Beaumont?
Where in the Berkshires are you? We live on Cape Cod.
Hi Lisa,
Your Libby is such a beautiful girl! I had seen pictures of her at 8 weeks, and tried to imagine my little Dutch, who will be 8 weeks old when we get him. She looked so big at 8 months old, and probably wasn’t even her full size yet! I can’t believed Dutch will be that big this summer! How old is she now?
She will be 9 months on the 15th of December. She is 72 lbs now.

Hi Lynda!
My husband, Scott, and I had seen the pictures of Ivan and Dylan you posted after the recent Agility Trials, and were so impressed by both dogs! Having a Lab, too, we totally identified with you! We also checked out the pictures of them playing together in the yard, chasing after those big balls. So cute! Finally, we saw Ivan with your cat, and we have a cat, too! We are looking forward to all the fun they will have together with us in the central Berkshires. Our home is a national historic landmark, officially the “Charles Whittlesey Power” house, set on 12 acres of open and wooded land directly adjacent to the Country Club of Pittsfield. Beaumont is a chocolate Lab with a pedigree full of US National and World Field Trial Champions, including “Pachanga,” history’s all-time high-point field trial champion (Canada). Beaumont is now “retired,” but he was an outstanding hunting dog. Now, he just hangs out with us, everywhere we go. He cues into everything (too smart!), and still has the same energy, but less endurance.
Like Jack (your husband?), my first GSD’s were females named Duchess – what a coincidence! My husband had a Doberman named Frantz, and we had also considered a Dobe. We are both so excited about our little Dutch!
I loved seeing the agility videos of Ivan and Dylan. I’ve been trying to find a course around here. Do you know of any in western MA? It looks like so much fun! We’re planning to start with Obedience. We usually go to my sister’s nearby lake cottage on weekends, so Dutch will have an early introduction to Dock Diving! He’ll be 7 months old in July – we’re going to have so much fun!

A Kira/Gavin pup? Beverly—you have hit the jackpot! Congratulations and welcome to the family.
