Plan to come early, stay late and learn with the other teams. Dress for the weather, wear sturdy boots or shoes, bring a chair, bevs and snacks, and it’s always a good day to start a herding training journal!
*Working spots are required to be prepaid to be guaranteed. Plan to send your check for $60 per lesson, made out to Kelly Malone, at least 10 working days prior to your reservation date. Fees are non-refundable if not filled prior to the clinic date.
Wish we lived closer and could attend this with Ivan!
Since Ivan’s mum is from HGH sire and dam, I think we can assume he would enjoy it. Rita’s Roman is a Kira son and Kira’s mother-line is old working-sheep-herding dogs. They didn’t just earn the title they lived it.
I think I should trade my pigs in for some sheep. John, want to help me move my pigs?
Are they pet pigs? I heard pigs are very smart.
I took Roman to Kelly’s place for a herding lesson this morning and she has a large pen containing about 20 ducks. Kelly actually made me herd the ducks while Roman waited in his crate. Thank God no one was around to capture it on video, but it got me familiar with the movement that the dog needs to do to get the job done. Too funny!
No video? Where was Chris??? Do you think it was helpful for you to try to herd the ducks? Wish I could have been there!
It was really helpful for me to move the ducks. She has all of her students do that. It’s funny, but it really helps you get the feeling for how the animals move, which translates to me helping Roman move the sheep calmly and without pressure. I have to herd ducks for about 10-15 minutes before each lesson 🙂
Blue and I did lessons with Kelly for quite awhile when we lived in Ohio.
