A 15-month old male lab who now has a female GSD pup living in the household has decided that it would be fun to mark his territory. He is marking inside the house so his owner isn’t too thrilled with him. My comment was that his hormones are kicking in—no free time loose in the house unless he can be supervised.
Any suggestions?
I agree, take a few steps back in potty training. When we moved to our new house my youngest dog peed in the new house twice. I just started taking him out more, confining him more, and monitoring him better when he was out. Then slowly giving more freedom as if a young puppy. After several weeks he’s now back to the same level of privilege he had in the old house.
watch him like a hawk, the signs they give before marking are pretty obvious, make sure you let the dog know that this is not acceptable, be very clear about your disapproval. You may also want to purchase a belly-band online. You can google it. It is like a male-diaper
Bellybands work well. Red wears one most of the time.
If you sew, you can also make them. My sister makes hers for her boy.
Agree with all the suggestions. I’d consider tethering the young dog to me or putting up baby gates, so he couldn’t sneak around the corner and out of my sight.
Don’t forget to clean ALL the spots very thoroughly with an enzyme cleaner (i.e. Nature’s Miracle or Bac Out). Otherwise, he’ll be drawn right back to the same spots…and the new puppy may also start peeing on those spots too!
I have always had great results with Natures Miracle. Just make sure you use enough so that if it’s on carpet it can soak down into the pad a little in that area. :et it dry on it’s own.
good suggestions! My favorite is Pure Ayre.
All good suggestions. Thank you!
