OH my goodness! She is filthy—I believe I saw a tiny speck of dirt on her left front paw. Robin, if you think Via is dirty, I will send you one of my mudders. 😉
Robin, what are your plans for her (obedience,Rally, etc.)? If you can channel the love of sticks and teach her to deposit in a pile it makes spring yardwork easier. If you had a pile of firewood she would enjoy that also. In the videos I’ve seen of her she always seems very focused on the task at hand.
These are the things that I’d like Via to be able to do when she grows up (in no particular order.) Most of these are long term goals as in 5 years out.
1. A diabetic alert dog who can do public access (service dog)
2. A competition dog for tracking, agility, rally, K9 Nosework, Treibball, obedience, freestyle, and showmanship. Maybe even schutzhund and herding. (sport dog)
3. A 4H dog (child’s dog)
4. A member of the household dog pack (pack member)
5. A walking, playing, hanging out companion for a household that includes a child and that child’s endless visiting friends. (companion dog)
6. A happy dog (well adjusted dog)
7. A Demo dog for some of my classes (Demo dog)
My short term goals (1-3 months) for me and Via are:
1. Join a handling class (for showmanship) or attend a weekly drop in session.
2. Have a daily outing to new places for continued Socialization.
3. Visit a schutzhund club to see if we are a good fit and start the training.
4. Continue with the Puppy Agility Foundations class.
5. Totally immerse Via into the pack.
6. Compete in the APDT Rally Puppy Class in Mid April.
My short term goals (6-9 months) for me and Via are:
1. Earn a Canine Good Citizen certificate.
2. Have completed the Relaxation Protocol in two different locations
My long term goals (9 to 12 months) for me and Via are:
1. Earn a APDTs Rally Level One title.
2. Earn a certificate to enter an AKC TD (tracking test).
3. Be ready for public access.
Me too, Julie! Here is a kid who will never be bored.

Hi Robin! I loved the video of Via! I have a GSD who loves his sticks as well… his favorite toys even over all the other things I have bought for him. Go figure!
I see at about :38 in the video that Via has some eye discharge. My boy had a good amount of that, so I took him to the opthamologist. It turned out he has Canine Keratitis and requires eye drops every day to combat the condition. I just thought I’d mention it in case you want your vet to check out Via’s eyes the next time you’re there.
You got to love GSD’s and their sticks! You should see the size of the collection on my back patio!
Thanks for the heads up, Lee. How old is your dog?
Pannus, or chronic superficial keratitis, is a disorder primarily of middle-aged dogs. My greyhound has it, but he has a host of immune-mediated problems. He gets cyclosporin A drops every morning.
I plan to have Via’s eyes checked by the ophthalmologist annually but have not yet schedule her first one. She will soon be 8 months old.
Apollo is now an 8 year old GSD. When he was diagnosed with Pannus he
was about 1-2 years old. He gets cyclosporin A drops in the evening and also
prednisolone in the morning. Each followed by tons of praise and
scratches, of course, so he doesn’t mind it too much!

I love how she entertains herself.

Welcome to Long-Dangerous-Tails Lee!
Thanks Julie! I’ve been a big fan for a couple of years now. I figure it’s about time I registered!
Welcome Lee!
