Notice how my Dad drops his phone at the end-there was a three foot ledge and when I ran into the water I dropped right off and went under the water– 1/2 second later my head popped up and I swam back in, but that was enough swimming for the day…for the both of us.

Just lived through my first Daytona Bike Week — 500,000 bikers drove by my house during the week and I didnt bark once—but this soda bottle looked at me a little funny and I needed to put it in its place.
My First Outdoor Nap – I love the Florida sun on my belly
I hung out with my new buddy Lucy…she was VERY patient with me.
Grizzly, you certainly have been a busy boy! I see that you’re adjusting to the FL lifestyle and that you’ve been making friends. Lucy seems like a very nice pal. Bike Week is a very big deal—congratulations for handling it so well. It is a good thing you put that soda bottle it its place. Did your Dad have you swimming in the Intercoastal?
Tomoka State Park —-sensory overload!
Even though that is salt/brackish water, you need to be careful of gators. We are in the breeding season, and I have seen gators there while fishing. I wished you wouldn’t have dropped the phone—he looked pretty darned cute swimming! It is time to buy the boy a baby pool!
Looks like a trip to the local K-Mart for one of the kiddie pools. Maybe he can take a trip to Margot’s. I’m sure her crew will teach him to swim. I’m sure he and Gracie can come up w/some fun in the pond!
Who is Margots?
I have a question!! *Raises hand like crazy*
I am so paranoid about Parvo, we literally don’t take Odin out, just front and backyard. Our Vet said to not even take him on the sidewalk where other dogs have been.
But I see you guys have been out and about, my husband really wants to take Odin with us to College Station (a few hours down south) this weekend for the reenactment. But I told him he’s crazy if he thinks I’m risking my dog just to be there, so we cancelled – we can still go.
What do you all think?? I’m being a psycho over nothing?
BTW..Grizzly is so handsome. We’ve been to Bike Week in Daytona once and it was a blast! Hope you all had fun!!
There are mixed feelings about this. Here is my opinion. Puppies need to get out and experience new things. However, NOT at dog parks! Odin had his first set of vaccinations before leaving Julie’s. By now, he has probably had one or two more sets. It is OK to take him places, just don’t take him where there will be a ton of dogs that you know nothing about. I would worry more about what my puppy could catch inside the waiting room of the vet’s office than I would worry about taking him to a re-enactment.
FYI—this might be just me, but I do not stick a little puppy on the floor while in the waiting room at the vet’s office.
So is the 2nd set is at 12 wks & then they are ok to go out around other dogs or do you need to wait for the 3rd boosters? Can they be around dogs you know have been vaccinated? Long time since I’ve had a puppy. Any suggestions on some good places to go that are not frequented by dogs?
I am a dog novice— I am just going on what I have read and learned from Julie & Carole. I absolutely keep Grizzly away from dog parks or anywhere that a lot of people bring their dogs right now. I have brought him to my friends houses with dogs that I know are up on their inoculations, he has been to a state park, outside of Starbucks to sit and be surrounded by teenagers, and the local tractor supply store .I guess to me the benefits of Grizzly being properly socialized early on outweigh the risk of contracting parvo—I would really like to hear what Julie says here 🙂
You and Mr. Grizzly are on the right track!
thanks for the gator tip Carole, I didnt even think about it – the idea of me being crocodile dundee wrestling Grizz away from a gator is playing in my head and does not seem fun….
Oh my goodness! I can just see your Crocodile Dundee moves! The bulls are very territorial right now, so be careful. I would tell you to only play in water where there are small children playing but I wouldn’t want to get myself into trouble. 😉
Odin stayed in his crate when we went for his check up, he got taken out of the crate only during the exam and back into the crate again.
He is due for his next set of shots on Friday, the reenactment is this Sat or maybe Sun. I’m waiting for a call from his Vet to weigh in on this as well.
I totally agree about socialization, my old dog Zeus was heavily socialized.
When I have a youngster, I ask if anyone sick has been in the office. If the answer is no, then the pup can come in and be on my lap.
I was not as smart about keeping Grizz in his crate on his first visit to the vet, but I will this Friday when he goes for his second set of shots as well….I am interested to know what your vet says..keep us updated
I talked to our Vet last night, he said he don’t want to risk it seeing Odin has not completed his shots but if I really want to take him, to be very careful. Odin will have his 2nd set of shots this week.
So we will go to the reenacment, there’s a lot of people there but not dogs, I will keep a very close eye on Odin. I’m such a worry wart!!
Love the videos–so cute protecting you from the vicious soda bottle. In regard to the swimming video–is that what happens when the Dad’s are watching the baby!!!
Good catch, Lisa! It is too bad someone didn’t video Dad rescuing the baby! LOLOL
As my husband said years ago to one of his employees when he thought he had lost my dog, not realizing I had come home to take her to the vet–“If anything happens to that dog, I’m a dead man”. His guys (who are the ones that told me about it) all chuckled about that for days after.
@Lisa that is funny!
See the watery weekend post-Margot owns Vida, Chevy and Gracie
Ok…we need to take a road trip with Roman and come for a visit. We took Roman out and about, but never to a dog park. The socialization was great. Wish we would have done that with our Shibas. Roman had a kiddie pool, and loved it. Soon, it became a big chew toy and he would carry it around the yard 🙂 You guys are doing an awesome job!
Rita — I have told Chris ten times to come down 🙂 If you brought Roman, that would make it even better — but a much longer trip !
Rita, are you still a member of WDA? If not, you’d better join quickly! 🙂
Will do, Carole. Think I’m a memeber, but I’ll check.
Getting your pup out to places that are not frequented by other dogs, that means avoid pet stores, dog parks, etc. Getting them around friendly dogs you know is a must. It is a balancing act. The window for socialization is 8 – 12 weeks of age, this is peak/premium time having the greatest influence on your puppy.
keep taking those pictures as he will change everyday, the videos are priceless!
For some reason I can hear the vidoes but not see the picture….any ideas how I can fix that? I’m using my laptop obviously while we are away. I’ll try to see them on my other computer when we are back at home.
Love the picture of Grizzly working on his tan!
Try it now Lynda.
Thanks Julie. That worked.
It seems all pups love those soda bottles. I think they like the noise. Dylan was crazy about them when he was a pup!
They actually make a toy called “bottle Crunchers” . My old GSD loved to play w/old bottles when she could get them her whole life.
Kapone will still go get one out of the bag every once in awhile, but they don’t last as long as they use to. He figured out how to get the cover off of them, so now I don’t let him have them any more.
