Sunday February 6, 2011 was Ronald Reagan’s 100th birthday. What could be a better day for the “R” litter to be born on? Pink collar girl has been named “Reagan.” Do you remember me writing when the P litter was born that I think 4 puppies is the most perfect number? Well, here we go another 4 puppy litter. The P liter was 3 girls and 1 boy. The R litter is 3 boys and 1 girl. One of these pups is a “blue.” It is a simple recessive trait carried by both parents. Scientifically, it means out of 4 puppies: 1 will present the trait, 2 will carry the gene for the trait but will not exhibit it, and one will not carry the gene at all. This is Billie’s first litter and she is a super mom. Her puppies were the perfect size all weighing the same.
The first picture looks like she has her blankie. When the Blue gets older will it be more of a gray color then? Good girl Billie!
The color of the GSD is in itself not important and has no effect on the character of the dog or on its fitness for work .
That said, my first GSD “Smoke” was a blue and tan saddle. He had gold eyes (blue eyes as a puppy.) He was a great dog. Lived to be 14 years old on terrible kibble.
This guy will most likely end up being a blue and red, based on his mother’s amazing red coat. Billie is so beautiful with all that deep red pigment!
I agree, Billie is beautiful and looks like she is enjoying motherhood, so far!
I think Reagan is the perfect name! The pups look very uniform. Congratulations on another beautiful litter.
Now go tell those girls that you think 6 or 8 is the perfect-size litter!
