This weekend was the annual Thanksgiving Cluster Dog Show in Springfield, Massachusetts. The show consists of all breed conformation, obedience, rally and agility. It is the largest show of its kind (according to them).
Dylan was entered in the agility trial on Friday and Saturday. He did very well and got a 1st place, two 2nd places and a 3rd place which included two new titles.
In between Dylan’s agility runs Ivan was able to have some play time.
AKC rules strickly forbid dogs being off leash…..!!
Attention Monica: We are pleased to report that we saw more GSD’s competing in this trial than we have ever seen.
PS: Temperatures in the mid 40’s….grass is still green!
WAY TO GO DYLAN! What are the new titles he earned? We had some visitors here this weekend that are Ivan fans. Allie did not act too silly around them.
Hi Julie,
On Friday Dylan was:
3rd in Open Jumpers w/ weaves Preferred for his 3rd leg and Open Jumpers Preferred Title (OJP)
2nd in Novice FAST Preferred for his 3rd leg and Novice FAST Preferred Title (NFP)
On Saturday he was:
1st in Open FAST Preferred for his 1st leg
2nd in Ex A JWW Preferred for his 1st leg.
On Friday in his Ex A Standard Preferred run he was going so fast (for him) that he took an off course jump so did not qualify! On Saturday in his Ex A Standard Preferred run I did not turn enough after a jump and he went towards the weaves instead of the tire so went off course again for another NQ! They were tough courses and even though Dylan did not qualify I was pleased with how he did and he was so happy and wagging his tail the whole way around!

Glad to hear Ivan has some fans out there and that Allie tried not to show them how goofy she can be!!
Congratulations Lynda & Dylan! Oh, and I’m so happy to see that you obey ALL AKC rules. 😉
Ivan reminds me so much of Allie.
We always follow the rules….!
Ivan does seem a lot like Allie. Such good dogs.
YAY Dylan!! (: And FINALLY we NEEED more Shepherds!! Keep ’em coming people, we need a Shepherd on the World Team! (:
Thanks Monica. German Shepherd Dogs (and Labrador Retrievers) rule!!
What a talented set of pups you have!!!! Boy does Ivan look like he’s having fun breaking the rules!
Where did you get that ball on a string? I would love to have one!
Stacy,
We got the balls from Elite K9 ( http://www.elitek9.com/Elite-Working-Balls/products/61/ )
The first ones we got were great. I ordered a few more and they came on much shorter ropes (about 7 inches) which would not work well for GSD’s. I sent them back and they are supposed to send me some with the 12 inch ropes. If you order any make sure you tell them you want long ropes.
Congratulations! Handsome dogs.
Congratulations to Dylan and Lynda – what a team! So glad to hear Dylan was having so much fun out there.
Funny you should be commenting on Allie’s goofiness – we thought Niro was copying Kora’s antics, but now I think maybe it just runs in the genes. Matt and I were laughing about it the other day – we told DeNiro that if Julie could see you now, she’d disown you! Mind you, we wouldn’t have him any other way!
Lynda, we came close to entering in this show in Rally! Darn! Would have loved to meet you.
What a shame you were not there. It would be great to meet you and Pieka. Now that you are in this area maybe we will run into you at one of the trials.
I saw your comment under Lance TDX. Are you doing tracking with Pieka? I really want to get Ivan involved in that but never seem to have the time. There are very few people in this area that do tracking. I belong to the Tracking Club of MA but have not been invloved too much yet.
Yep, we have been working on tracking for quite awhile. The timing is an issue for me too – we’d be further along if I got her out twice a week, which is darn near impossible for us. I’ve struggled to find good fields up here too. We were spoiled in Ohio, there were fields everywhere…and I could always just drive 1.5 hours to my family farm and have all the tracking ground I wanted.
