LT is 13 weeks today. Here she is deciding how far to go into the water at Lake Michigan. It’s cooling off so she wasn’t in for long.
Tonight will be her third session with Gustavo. We have met some real nice people and dogs there.
Last Friday she was 26 pounds when at the Vet for her last puppy shot. Next Vet visit will be for rabies vacine in a month or so.
It is such fun getting reports on the O litter–and amazing that everyone so far seems to be following the same growth chart, exhibiting the same shark behavior, and adapting beautifully to diverse environments. Anybody else dealing with rapid toenail growth?
Yes on the toenail. Via will put a front paw in my hand for the clipping. The power of CHEESE.
How did you start introducing that approach? Raj just had a major tantrum about nails. But then, last night he had a major meltdown at handling class about having Laura look at his teeth. I do it, but it was a new person so he had to object. She won, of course. Have you noticed a certain strong-willed tendency in these pups?
I started with nails a little late. I think it was in the second week. And we’ve been
working on it most days. I take a bit off or pretend to and feed.
Via is a very determined girl. She already likes things HER way.
Nails have been a struggle for all of my dogs. It must be me. LT seems very flexible – willing to do anything and nothing seems to bother her.
I’m with you on the nails thing, Dave–any dog I have ever owned has hated them being trimmed . . . except Isa! She is just about to turn one year old, and sits patiently with a paw up while I Dremel her nails. Shane and Jaime’s girl, Pieka, is fine with Dremel manicures, too. 🙂
I have yet to meet a dog that I cannot convince to let me do their nails with a mostly cooperative attitude…..including some snarky fosters. I have been REALLY lazy lately about nails though! Some key points for me, that might help Ann:
1. I play the “nail game.” I make a big fuss out of going to get the dremel, getting treats ready, putting dogs away while the other dog is getting nails done, etc.
2. I do lots of work getting them used to having their feet messed with and accustoming them to the sound and feel of the dremel. With puppies, it may be one “touch” per session.
3. I use crunchy treats when possible, which take them longer to eat.
4. At the end of the day, the nails ARE getting done. The dog isn’t going to win, so he/she might as well submit with relative good grace. 😉
Julie does an awesome job getting the pups used to having their feet handled. It helps tremendously. Ann, I can try to take a video of Pieka and Louie (our Shih Tzu) if it would help.
She is adorable.
Looks like she is having fun!
Good job with her last night Dave. Sorry about messing you and her by petting her on the field, Monica and I couldn’t resist.
Forget about it. She is distractable – whether or not people pet her.
She’s on the ball you lent to me last night – thank you. We probably played longer than we should. It was good timing because she hadn’t seen me all day. In the familiar surroundings she doesn’t get as distracted.
What about that 5 month old Millie! She (Sarah & Dale) is an inspiration to me.
I agree Dave, Millie was a superstar!javascript:void(0)
You will have a lot of fun at Gustavo’s with LT. She looks like a real cutie.
Thank you Dave & Julie. We are having so much fun with her and it gets better every day.
