I thought I would let you all know that Pieka finished her AKC Rally Novice title yesterday, with a score of 100 and a second place. We’re very proud of our girl! We completed the title in three tries, with three placements, an our lowest score was a 99. Pieka is now officially Alta-Tollhaus Bali, RL1, RN, CGC.
On a funny note- we were beat on timing yesterday by a woman of rather advanced age, showing a Golden who was equally senior. They BOTH seemed rather frail outside the ring. I’m not sure if they were flying once they got in the ring – or if we were moving in slow motion – but Shane is teasing me, as Pieka and I usually heel quite quickly! 🙂 I made a point of congratulating her – she was absolutely thrilled to win the class and I thought she was just about the cutest thing ever.
While it’s not a show picture, here is a picture of Pieka. Goodness, she and Billie look just alike!
Congratulations to you and Pieka. What terrific scores you had. Great job!
Way to go! Brains and beauty! What a pretty girl, and great scores- you should be very proud. We had a sample of what Rally was like in one of our classes – it was fun, you really have to be on your toes!
What?? You dropped all the way down to 99? 🙂 FABULOUS SCORES!! We will not tell anyone that a little old lady with her little old golden kicked your butt. Pieka is so beautiful. She looks like Kira/Kayla with long hair.
Congratulations to you and Pieka for your great accomplishment. I’m sure the two of you will continue to strive for perfection.
CONGRATULATIONS! Fantastic scores and I did have to laugh that you were beaten by the little old lady and her old Golden… did they give her a handicap?
Did you happen to video tape your infamous 2nd place perfect score leg?
I recently saw Pieka’s long-coated brother, Jack. He is bigger and more masculine Pieka, with the same mahogany-red coat and excellent structure.
Pretty girl! Nice to hear from you Jaime.
Congratulations, Jaime–way to go, you two! Pieka is so beautiful and so feminine. I always enjoy seeing pictures of her. She is so deeply pigmented. Have you happened to have seen Isa’s latest pics in my “Isa in October” post? We can’t believe that she will be a year old in a few short weeks.
Here is the link to Jil’s last post on Isa:

Jil,
I always think that Pieka and Isa look very similar! Isa is growing up to be a beautiful girl. And this post triggered my memory- I never did send you that book, did I?!? I am so sorry. I will try to get it out to you.
Pieka’s pigment always draws comments. Even at the AKC shows (aka the Land of the Sometimes Not So Friendly), people stop and stare. Then ask me if she’s a Tervuren. Sigh.
Jaime just spit my morning coffee on the computer screen…. you summed up AKC perfectly… “aka the Land of the Sometimes Not So Friendly”
I think what confuses people about Pieka, especially at AKC shows, is she is a true medium sized GSD, brilliant mahogany-red and then that collie like ruff of hair….all of this just does not compute when compared to the typical AKC GSD, which tend to be oversized, black and blondish-tan.
Julie, glad I entertained you! 😉 The whole show dynamic issue is interesting. I have decided that I love the APDT crowd. They’re friendly, supportive, welcoming, and they genuinely love their dogs, regardless of their score. If it weren’t for the respect value that AKC – particularly traditional obedience – brings along with it, I would avoid AKC like the plague.
And you are very right about the size/pigment confusion regarding Pieka. People think she’s miniature. She weighs 55 lbs! It’s true that she is very feminine and refined. But she’s hardly teeny.
