Current brag. Lance and I went to Canada last weekend with my friend Lisa and her English Cocker, Adam. We went to try our hand at Canadian tracking test. I am now proud to say that Lance is now a “Am/Can TD” boy. Or that’s what they tell me I can put in his title string since he now has a tracking title (TD) from both Canada and USA. Attached are pictures that were taken by the Judge, Ms. Marie-P Babin (I got her permission to share the pictures). The “trophy” picture is one of my own. Enjoy – that’s my boy!
Laura and “Lance, Am/Can TD” (course he’s still a moose to me).
Congrats! I’ll be sure to let Chopper know.
I’ve been on a tracking kick lately (tracked 7 days in a row and counting with no intention of stopping) and would like to try our hand/paw at the AKC style sometime, but I hear these tests are few and far between?
Way to go Laura and Lance! Beautiful tracking…looks like soybeans?
There are at least three tests in MI this fall. There is even one in Grand Rapids- Oct 24. There are fewer TD tests in the spring, but they still exist.
I find with tracking when my dog is ready to test I am willing to drive, so I’ve had dogs pass in KY, IL and MI.
It has been lovely weather for tracking lately. I’m hoping to get my harrier certified soon for the fall tests.
Switching from AKC type tracking to schutzhund tracking was very frustrating for me. With my new trainer I am starting to like tracking again. This is how I look at it:
It is just you and your dog, you do not need other people to help with it, and it is free.
We were out doing our AKC-style tracking this morning: sun, breeze, 50s, a great excuse to be outdoors (not to mention a great excuse to leave the work I should have been doing right then). If you haven’t tried tracking, get out there while the weather is nice and have fun with your dog!
So you have to get “certified” before you can do a TD?
Right. Before you can enter a TD test you have to pass a certification track under a licensed tracking judge. This is arranged at the convenience of you and judge. If you pass they give you certification which you need to enter the actual test. They are only good for so long, etc, etc., Betsy, Laura, Ann, Charlene, Keith, etc., all know the exact details on this….maybe one of them will expound on it?
Congratulations Laura and Lance. I’m sure I’ve said it before but Lance was one of the reasons I went to see Julie and her dogs. You do so well training and competing with your dogs.
Awesome, congratulations!
