I had to judge an AHBA trial today so I brought Singer along. Singer spent most of the day in the car in his crate with an occasional short walk between judging classes. When the trial was over I was able to run Singer under another judge for his first HCT test leg. Now the problem is that Singer spent a good part of the day, watching me judge, watching me handle other dogs and then I asked him to preform at a place he had never seen or worked before. Even with all these things against him, his performance was exceptional!

Not only did he pass his test, but he garnered the highest marks in areas the judges look for. During his run the judge asked me, while I’m in the middle of the test, “Why is this dog not entered in the JHD (Junior Herding Dog).” As Singer is still under nine months he can only be entered in test so JHD would be the highest level he could enter. It was good to hear from others how impressed they were with Singer’s work and knowing that others agree he is working well above the levels he can enter. Looks great for the future. Also the HCT is in two parts with the first leg not much more than an instinct test. The judge didn’t know it was Singer’s first time, and had us work the routine for the second leg which requires the dog to show more control and movement of the stock with a stop and recall. Yeah Singer.

Wonderful job, you two! Bet Singer was exhausted by the end of his long day! Herding is so interesting to me, even though I know next to nothing about it yet. Can you even believe that these “I” pups and Singer are almost 9 months old already? Hi from Isa. 🙂

Congratulations to both of you! Way to go, Singer! He sure is a handsome dog. From his photo, it is hard to believe that he is still under 9 months old.

Way to go Singer. He is doing so well for his age. As Jil said, it is hard to believe that our pups are nearly 9 months old already. I would love to try herding with Ivan. Keep the Singer updates coming!

It makes me happy to know that Singer is being worked with sheep and carrying on the tradition. Momma funny is very proud of you!
